Who else is a fan of the Dan? My favorite album is probably Royal Scam, but it's so hard to choose!

    RESPECT.

Don't own any albums(probably couldn't find them) but I hear them on radio once in a while.

LMM, you sir have terrific taste!

Saw the Dan twice two summers ago. They were amazing.

I've always wanted to see them live, but I haven't yet. I have their live Plush TV Jazz-Rock DVD and it's awesome. I highly recommend it to every Dan fan who doesn't have it already. Beatles, Floyd, and Dan are my favorite rock groups. Everything else is just a hybrid.

They are so tight in concert. I forgot how much of perfectionists they were: Both concerts were almost identical note for note. Only one song different, Hey Nineteen in one, My Old School in the other.

Do you have a favorite song or album? I think my favorite song is Aja.

Difficult to narrow it down. I think Aja is a great album (and song), but I do find myself listening to the Royal Scam a lot.

Pushed in a corner I might say "Don't Take Me Alive". Great guitar part, rocked in concert, and I like the clever lyrics (aren't they all clever though) - He's not saying the typical "You won't take me alive" he's almost pleading suicidially, "Don't Take Me Alive".

    Off to update my sig.

Cool sig, check mine out! :D

"Don't Take Me Alive" is great and it rips, but I think "Caves of Altamira" owns that album. When I hear Royal Scam that's the one track I want to hear over and over again.

Nice. I updated mine a little, it's less subtle than I remembered.

Did you see their Storytellers episode? When Walter Becker was talking about the cab driver who said one of their songs has the stupidiest lyric:

"Is there gas in the car? Yes there's gas in the car."

    Funny stuff.

Not many bands could take twenty years off and come back with great album, that's just as cool as their old stuff and just as dirty.

Yeah I saw their Storyteller's episode. I really like 2 Against Nature and as you said it's like they picked up right where they left off. I think I like "Almost Gothic" the best from that one.

Fagan's "Nightfly" is great too. That's a classic in my book.

Their solo work is great. The video for Snowbound is one of my favorites.

Where the heck are the other Dan Fans? I know there is a member called "Aja" out there.

    I love that band!

I have the Citizen Steely Dan box set, 2 Agaist Nature plus Kamakiriad, Nightfly and a pretty cool thing of Donald's "New Your Rock & Soul Review".

Anyone heard that incredible wasted intro some guy gives the band on the live Bodhisattva (in the Citizen set)?

    Freakin' hilarious!

I think the other Dan fans follow a schedule or something or it's seasonal. Anyway, I don't think I've seen the Snowbound video. Never knew there was one actually! I was in another frame of mind when Fagan dropped his second solo album. Btw the person known here as AJA isn't a Dan fan, those are just his initials. I asked him about it once.

Edit: oops spoke too soon, enter JP!

JP that live version of Bodhisattva with the wacky intro is also on the extended version of the Gold(greatest hits) CD. There's also 'Western World' on it which initally was a track dropped from the Royal Scam album, along with Fagan's track from the Heavy Metal soundtrack.

Yeah "Citizen" has Western World, plus a demo of "Everyone's Gone To The Movies", and "FM" of course.

That intro to Bodhisattva (Live) is by one Jerome Aniton. I'm trying to find a full transcript online, but no luck so far. It was the b-side to to Hey 19 single.

    [image=http://62.58.175.163/SteelyDanDatabase/images/JeromeAniton.jpg]

Jerome doing what he does best (wav)

Now THIS is odd - a rockabilly cover (sans spoken intro I'd wager) of Bodhisattva by the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

    Speaking of the offshoots...

Anyone got Walt's "11 Tracks of Whack"?

    Worth buying?

Kamakiriad didn't do much for me, I guess I never got my head around that different voice of Don's.

He seemed to have his old voice back on 2 Agaist Nature.

Nightfly is a beautiful, beautiful album though.

    Seen the Dan-Cam?

One gets the impression that he didn't know who he was introducing.

"You can tell your neighbors they missed out on a damn good thing tonight."

"You can tell them over, Hell, you can tell them over in Watts...that Mister-Whatever..."

I'm curious about '11 Tracks' myself. Hey, JP, maybe you can help me with this: Has Fagan ever sung/recorded "Midnight Cruiser" from the Can't Buy a Thrill" album with him on the lead vocals? I think that track is good but I wish he had sung it instead of the other guy!

Edit: MP that dude just sounded f'ed up!

The "Can't Buy a Thrill" Midnight Cruiser vocals were by Jim Hodder (the drummer).

    Here's a version with Walt on lead vocals - It's a live bootleg;

There's a video clip link, but it appears to be broken :(
