    From the FAQ;

    . The 1996 tour was eagerly anticipated by Dan fans since they were expecting to hear some of the new studio material Donald and Walter were working on, and they were not disappointed; "Jack of Speed", "Cash Only Island" and "Wet Side Story" were played at various venues during the tour, and were very warmly received. Some fans were shocked to hear Walter taking the lead vocals on the very first new song played, "Jack of Speed", and wondered what that may mean for the overall lead-vocals situation in Steely Dan. During the tour Walter also traded lead vocals with Donald on "Everyone's Gone to the Movies", performed "Midnight Cruiser" solo (and in the process making everyone forget Jim Hodder's original lead vocal on the tune), and also performed "My Waterloo" from "11 Tracks of Whack".

    My favourite FAQ entry?

    Is [Insert Name Of Character In Song] really about [Insert Real Person]?
    No

    Heh!

    Cool, thanks, JP. I'd love to hear Fagan do "Midnight Cruiser", maybe someday.

    Just discover that the Brian Setzer cover of Bodhisattva is from the "Me, Myself & Irene" soundtrack - there's 7 Dan covers on there.

    LMM & MP, either of you guys heard the album?

    You can get sound samples here and on Amazon here.

    Features Classic Steely Dan Songs;
    Performed By

    SMASHMOUTH - do it again
    WILCO - Any Major Dude
    IVY - Only a fool would say that
    BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA - Bodhisattva
    THE PUSH STARS - Bad Sneakers
    MARVELOUS 3 - Reelin' in the Years
    BEN FOLDS FIVE - Barry Town

    Sounds interesting...

    Yeah I remember hearing about that soundtrack. I haven't heard it and quite honestly I don't have any intention of doing so. Actually I do remember Ben Folds doing Barry Town on Letterman one night and it sounded like a no-talent loser giving his worst rendition while rehearsing for junior high talent show(how's that for a glowing review?). The Brian Setzer track might be worth a listen though 'cause he's smokin'! :D

    I have the album. Not the greatest covers ever, but pretty cool as a tribute to the band.

    Imagine Smash Mouth doing "Do it Again", it's exactly how you think.

    You mean, it sounds the same as every other Smashmouth song?

    Has anybody seen or have the old 1978 movie FM? I picked it up recently on DVD and it opens with that great Dan track. LOTS of good rock'n roll in that movie.

    Including that crappy organ hook that is in everyone of their songs.

    EDIT: I haven't seen FM in awhile. Comedy Central use to play it all the time. Is it worth revisiting?

    Speaking of movies.

    If they ever make a Steely Dan movie, here's my pick for Don;

    Any suggestions for Walt?

    LOL, good one, JP. I'll have to think of some actors to play Becker.

    MP, as you may know FM is good movie for the music, but not necessarily a good movie. I love classic rock so it was essential for me to own it. Is it worth revisiting? Eh, well if you have a DVD player and you can find it cheap- sure! I usually put it on and do something else like get on the computer, serves as a kind of jukebox.

    The Dan rocks! Too difficult to pick one song as my favorite. There are so many. Except for Fagan's solo stuff, there's no other music out there quite like Steely Dan. Gotta love their unique style. :cool:

    Wow! What on old thread!:cool:

    I have everything they've ever done(obviously) and my favorite is probably Gaucho.

    You real hardcore Dan fans should def check out their collections of demos if you can find them. The Roaring of The Lamb is particularly good.

    Last time I saw them in the Boston area they dusted off The Boston Rag as the show opener. What a treat!

    Hope you make it to that show jp!

    Yeah, only 5 years since I last posted in this thread hoping they'd come out this way.

    Who's the Steely-Dan sock there? (nice icon, btw) :D

    Have you guys got Morph the Cat. I'm still to pick it up - what do you think of it?

    Soon I'll throw down my disguise
    You'll see behind those bright eyes
    By and by
    When the sidewalks are safe
    For the little guys

    I liked Morph the Cat. Its similar in structure to the two most recent Steely Dan albums, though not as good and a bit more hit and miss. Oddly enough, I think Don's vocals are exceptional in a progressive, jazzy sort of way.

    Its worth a spin.

    Mary Shut The Garden Door is a really good track.

    I really like Morph the Cat, especially the title track and the reprise at the end. It's a fun, bouncy album.

    Btw has anyone else been hearing the term Yach Rock? Apparently it's meant to describe music like Steely Dan/Donald Fagen, the Doobies and more.
    [image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d5/FullSail.jpg]

    I think it's pretty funny. :D
