Still Flying: Serenity/Firefly

Serenity, which was released this year, is based off of the short lived FOX show Firefly, which was about a goup of people on a small ship called Serenity, just trying to get by, when things get harder after they pick up a couple of new passengers.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, however I have yet to see the TV show.

 

I'm watching it now!

 

I have to say that Serenity is my all time favorite movie as of September 30th. I really loved every moment of it, except for one of those unfortunent deaths.

 

I finally watched the movie this weekend. Really well made, although sometimes the effects landed with a bit of a thud. I am a huge fan regardless.

The big question now is if this is the end of Mal Reynolds and the remaining members of his crew? There were rumours of two more made-for-TV movies possibly on Sci-fi, but Entertainment Weakly tried to squash those and claim Joss Whedon has hung Firefly up on a shelf forever.

Sadly, there was an article up on the SciFiWire today that said that there would be no more Firefly, although they're wanting more incarnations of the universe... There are a couple novels and comics on the way.

 

I would think Joss would come back, if anything just take a break with him doing his work on Wonder Women and writing on Astonishing X-Men.

The only thing I thought was missing was that there is still not even the slightest sign of a resolution between Mal and Inara. They hinted that they still love/hate each other and left it at that. I'd also like to know how the events of Serenity will affect Zoe.

Are we allowed to give Serenity spoilers yet?

 

I think that it's safe to post up spoilers, the movie's been out for a while now.

 

I know! Maybe if they bring the show back, they'll resolve that. Or knowing Joss if he can't do another movie or bring the show back, he'll probably just fall back to doing books.

I got Serenity for Christmas and thought it was good, so I ordered the Firefly dvd set, which I have yet to receive. I remember seeing a few episodes back when it was on the air, and I thought it was a good show.

 

Serenity isn't out in the UK on DVD till February


I've got Firefly on DVD and it's ace, I'm gutted that Fox cancelled such a quality show but then agaion it's rare that large corporations will give niche markets a chance these days (Sci Fi gets a very raw deal in the UK).

I love this show/movie. My roommates sat me down in September and we watched the entire series in the space of a week.I am forever hooked. I am slowly working on getting all of my friends hooked, too. When I get back on campus, we're watching the entire series again.

So, yeah. Sign me up for the fan club.

 

Might I suggest we change the thread title to:

"Oh God, Oh God, We're All Gonna Die: Serenity/Firefly"

 

I picked up the DVD over the holidays but haven't had a chance to see what goodies are in it. Enjoyed the film a lot. Hopefully DVD sales are doing well.

I don't have my Firefly or Serenity DVDs yet, (they're ripped files on my computer ATM ) but it ain't form a lack of trying.

and actually I dont believe Mal and Inara will really have a relationship. realistically it cant happen. mal and Inara have a business relationship and he would have to be the not so jealous type of guy. They care for each other thats all but due to their jobs neither can really have a relationship.
