What is stormBoards?

stormBoards is a project I have been working on, and have been assisted a bit by Kev-mas_colcha. It is a replica of IGNBoards (formerly SnowBoards) and has been based off of the former system known as hailBoards. It runs off of phpBB3, so it is as secure as they come, and has an amazing, user friendly system as well as a tremendous admin panel.

Hey, that sounds really cool, actually... I'd definitely like a screenshot whenever you get one.

 

I've been looking forward to seeing this since you told me about it a week or so again. I always liked hailBoards as the "poor man's TF.N-style", so to speak, so I think this will really work out well.

Hey, nemisis, that looks really good! You two have done a good job on it so far. You said it's based on phpBB3? I'm impressed at some of the differences I see!

 

Seems like a decent start. Nice work on the designing so far. I do have a question, though. Are those colored names final? I only ask because they both, though especially the green, seem to clash with the colors of the rest of the design.

 

I have finished with the actual layout. So what you see is the final product, layout wise. I need to go through and fix any errors that I may see yet.

As to the colors, those can be edited via the admin panel. I am going to try and get full user colors like we have here on the JC but I cannot find a modification that can do that. So, that may have to come in a later release.

 

I am letting it be known that I am growing exceedingly closer and closer to the finished product. It should be out by the end of next week.

Looking good, nemisis! I'm definitely impressed so far with what I've seen! How long have you actually been working on this, in terms of both design and implementation (weeks? months?) and in hours per week? It seems like a rather large and intricate project that I would have ripped my hair out doing!

I have been working on it for quite some time. I think I started in mid June. As to hours per week....a lot more than one may realize. I didn't calculate, but I would say that I have spent more than 8 hours per day at some points. Now that I am finished actually making the layout and everything, I don't spend so much time. Right now it's more of a waiting game until I can get some more features (liked colored usernames).

Also, please note that you need a bit more than the usual web server to run a stormBoard. Here is a link to the Requirements of PHPBB3, which is the same as stormBoards.

If you need help with hosting, I can recommend you a great free web host with everything you need. PM me and I can help you out.

As he points out, this will require a host, and if you don't want to shell out money for a good one, free ones are the way to go, yet they aren't that great. I'd be willing to host some people.

For those of you who want to see a stormBoard being actively used you can find one at:
http://arsenal.zeroboards.net with some minor changes not in the original 1.1.0 release of stormBoards, but we are hoping our alterations to the code will be implemented into the next release.

I currently host that board on my own site ( http://zeroboards.net | http://zeroboards.net/forums ) even though I personally don't use stormBoards, I am still a very big supporter of the project and I think Nemisis & Colcha have done a FANTASTIC job at keeping hail alive through a new breed so-to-speak.
