Has it been addressed that really the AT-ACT we see isn't just a standard tank but also transportation for the Kyber Crystals that aren't just stowed inside but have specific ports in the hull.

That could be a specialist model I spose but perhaps the vechnical was actually designed as a transporter? that might even make sense with it being a hover tank, maybe designs for transporting something more volatile that would be best not shaken up by a walker or indeed a wheeled vechnical?

I am not quite sure if this counts as a spoiler (I incline to the opinion that it is as it really spoils the tension of the opening of the film to know precisely what is coming for Galen and his family).

Throughout the film there are variations in the equipment of the guard. I am presently trying to work out the opening scene.

A detail of six guards accompanies the Director to Lah'mu.

The essential armour appears to be uniform, but there are definite differences.

I believe two guards have black shoulder pauldrons and long blaster rifles and strapping, four no strapping and shorter blasters.

It poses the question if the pauldron denotes rank or specialism.

There are a good many other death trooper scenes I shall pore over, this is only up here as I presently only have a blurry phone screen at present and may have stumbled.

This relates to Rogue One, which is a released movie (NOT an upcoming movie)... so I'm moving this to the correct forum.

Edit: Moved, added Rogue One tag, and updated the thread title.

Shoulder pauldrons denote the wearer's rank, position or specialization. Black is for enlisted troopers, white for sergeants and orange are unit leaders. Also blue would indicate a sniper and red would be a grenadier.

Yes, but on a death trooper they're all black. :p

They tried out the orange pauldrons but they clashed with their unis. ;)

My sincerest thanks for the correction, I shall try hard to avoid such sloppy posting.

Yes, the guard squadron most unfortunately from the point of view of your analysis have uniformly black pauldrons. Nevertheless I am very grateful, thank you.

An initial viewing of Rogue One lead me to observe that the harness is never worn on "dress" occasions - when the Director has an audience with Governor Tarkin, and again on the "bridge" of the archival tower on Scarif he is invariably accompanied by two guards in "plain" armour and carrying the shorter blasters.

By contrast, in the scene above mentioned and on the beach on Scarif the harness, grenades and long rifle are seen, which leads me to posit an association with field operations.

Unfortunately this leaves the exact significance obscure and possibly insolubly so.

My apologies for covering probably well explored ground, a vice I expect is common to all new members!

My brain knows they are the best Stormtrooper variants in Star Wars but my nostalgic prepubescent heart is stuck in 1983 staring at the Biker Scout figure on the rack on release day.

We don't know how many stormtroopers died. A lot of them were shot and fell down, so we tend to assume they're dead. But it's possible that lots of them were only wounded instead of killed. And that would mean the armor did them some good. That's how I justify it in my own headcanon..

And the troopers that K-2SO picked up and threw into each other. They have to just be hurt.

I don't know, the armor in Star Wars appears to be useless from the leather armored Naboo Security Guards to the white armored Clones. Apparently butting helmeted heads together in a three stooges-like routine can easily knock out Troopers. This was done just again in the Fallen Order game, the AT-AT pilots. I dont think the armor is even effective against percussion and shrapnel in Star Wars, if it is then its very inconsistent.

It didtn take much to destroy battle droids and they were made with plastoid as well.

When the armor is somewhat effective like with the Praetorian Guards, there is plot introduced weakness. Like exposed parts of the bodies and only effective against slashing and glancing blows but not thrusts and stabs.

Apparently even the FO armor shatters into a glass when hit like when Han was blowing away Stormtroopers, lol.

Add to that, clone trooper armour in the MedStar pair of novels, frequently didn't even stop flechette darts!

Rogue One does have the best trooper variants. However in The Mandalorian the Deathtroopers were not tall enough at all, they are pretty short. That is a shame. Also the biker-scout troopers masks in The Mandalorian wasn't closed all the way in many shots. Looked sloppy. Plus their outfit was ill-fitting in the mid-section.
