Remember those lovable droids C1-P8 and D-3B0, that travelled with Luke and in the end helped destroy the Morte Nera?

Yeah neither do I, but you would if you saw Star Wars (or I should say Guerre Stellari) in Italy back in the 70's.

For some reason the names were changed in Italy to make it easier for translation. The oddest being the droids.
    C1-P8 is R2-D2
    D-3BO is C-3P0

    (Image from www.toysrgus.com)

    Sabbipode is a Tusken Raider
    Guerriero Imperiale are Stormtroopers
Caccia T.I.E. is a Tie fighter
Morte Nera or Black Death is the Deathstar. (I wonder why they didn't call it Morte Stellari?)

    and Chewbacca is well.... Chewbacca.

And of course later, much later, parts of Naboo, were filmed in Italy.

But the most infamous contribution Italy has given to the world of Star Wars is Star Crash. Star Wars was so popular studios around the world scrambled to offer their versions.
Italy brought us spaghetti sci-fi, made by many of the crew of those classic Clint Eastwood movies. But they didn't get Eastwood, they got David Hasselhoff.

    Star Crash
Arguably one of the worst movies ever made. I forced my parents to go see it with me and they tried to leave in the first five minutes. I made them suffer through the whole thing.
I have a soft spot for Star Crash and it's laser swords, golem robots, and the Star Hawk spaceship, but the only way to watch it is the MST3K version.

Until next month's Strange Wars readers, arrivederci.

Maggio la forza è con voi, sempre.

This was never a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode, it was fan mystie'd in text form online. I'm an old DAP user and contributer, if anyone ever wants to see an obscure MST episode not released on DVD I have it.

Star Crash is available on DVD in it's original form - widescreen even!! Who's gonna buy it or netflix it? I'll watch it!

    According to the above website

    Nov 23 2003

The MFT3k Starcrash Episode has been completed. Check out their website for production photos and an episode guide. The sets look awesome! You can also order the dvd from them.

Was the show cancelled before this was ever aired?

Would explain why I remember the trailer.

    I love Amazon's Plot Synopsis
A pair of smugglers manage to pick up a castaway while running from the authorities, who turns out to be the only survivor from a secret mission to destroy a mysterious superweapon designed by the evil Count Zartham. The smugglers are soon recruited by the Emperor to complete the mission, as well as to rescue the Emperor's son, who has gone missing.

MFT3K must be a fan produced version of MST3K. The last episode of MST3K was released on the Sci-Fi channel on 2001-11-17, Tony's 10th birthday!
