Wonderful, absolutely wonderful! I am so very glad that everything seems to be ending happily...Qui-Gon is alive and staying that way, Anakin is still of the Light, and Obi-Wan is at peace. To quote the Chosen One: "Yippee!"

    I especially loved these lines:

Tell him we loved his mother too

    and

    Exasperating creatures, angels

The first for pure tearjerker-ness (don't we ALL love Shmi, really?), and the second just because it's funny and it's so much fun to make fun of Mace. :)

Oh this was juz great!!!! I had tears in my eyes!! Good ones mind you! ;)

    Oh this was sooo heartwarming!!!

Obi-Wan moved closer to Qui-Gon and then asked the question that had haunted him ever since his master?s return. He lightly touched Siatra on the arm to gain her attention. ?Will my master get to stay here, remain alive I mean?? he asked hopefully.

Siatra looked at Qui-Gon and smiled. ?I think that is up to him. Being alive is exhausting, as I?m sure he has rediscovered.? She reached up to caress his cheek. ?But he has lived a good life and has earned the right to enjoy more of it if he wishes.?

Qui-Gon looked at Obi-Wan?s expectant face. He thought of the young man who was recovering in the Healer?s Ward, he thought of all the friends that still lived here in the Temple. And then he remembered the peace of where he had been before, the absence of anything at all that was unpleasant.

Obi-Wan stared at him, unwilling to say anything to sway his decision.

Qui-Gon took Siatra?s hands in his and kissed them. ?If the choice is mine then I choose to remain here, with my padawan. I have much to make up to him.? He grinned and his eyes twinkled with mischief. ?And there is much left I would like to do yet.?

Obi-Wan felt relief wash over him as he heard his master?s decision.

*Sigh* if only something like this did happen... how'd things would prob have turned out for the better!!
Great work VaderLVR64!! Once again an excellent exquisite chappie!!!! =D=

?Exasperating creatures, angels,? Mace remarked as he looked at Qui-Gon.

?You have no idea,? the Jedi answered with heartfelt conviction.

    Loved it! :)

I like the way Birdsong and Siatra gave Mace the run around. He's use to getting answers and they simply told him 'no'.

I also liked that Qui-Gon's going to be around for Obi-Wan and Anakin. Somehow, I think it would have been hard on them if Qui had chosen to go back.

    Can't wait for more!

I loved this post. It was sweet and funny and very, very touching. Birdsong and Siatra were amazing. And you did a fantastic job in developing even further the relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. I felt like you used the perfect amount of words - nothing wasted or overdone. I'm a little sad though . . . surely things don't end here? There's much much more coming right? I love your world. :D

I hope we see Anakin again soon, although it is great to see Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon clearing up some of the stuff between them.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! My favorite chapter. Loved the Council's reactions to the angels as well as the way Siatra explained the reasons for Qui-Gon's return yet left the Council in the dark about how it happened. Yea, Qui-Gon is staying.

She politely inclined her head to the council members. ?But rest assured that Qui-Gon is not the only one who has made mistakes in this situation. He was right to take you to task for keeping the boy from his mother. He suffered deeply for it, as did she.? Several of the Jedi shifted in their seats uneasily.

Loved seeing Siatra giving the council a piece of her mind! I can't wait to see Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon talk it out. And I hope we get to see a bit more of Anakin, too. Another wonderful post.

    Chapter 24: ?Friendship?

?We know our friends by their defects rather than their merits.? W. Somerset Maugham

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan made their way down the corridor to the Healer?s Ward. Obi-Wan?s thoughts were still trying to reconcile the appearance of the angels with what he had accepted as reality. Every now and then he glanced over at Qui-Gon as if he wanted to speak but then he would lower his head once more and continue walking silently at his side.

Qui-Gon ignored the stares of the knights, padawans, and initiates they passed. Although word had not yet spread about the angels, his return from the dead was more than enough to cause comments when he was seen roaming the halls of the Temple. He politely acknowledged those he knew with a nod of his head, smiled at the little ones who looked up at him with awe, and ignored those who simply stared with their jaws hanging open.

They passed by Kree, the young boy who had escorted Obi-Wan to the communications room while Anakin was on Tatooine. His purple eyes flashed up at Qui-Gon with a great deal of curiosity but he did not interrupt them until Obi-Wan motioned him to his side.

?Kree, I would like you to meet my master, Qui-Gon Jinn,? he said politely.

Kree shook the large hand proffered to him and smiled. ?I?ve heard about you, they said you were dead. Is that true?? he asked bluntly in his husky voice.

    Qui-Gon laughed, ?Yes, I?m afraid that?s true.?

Kree laughed, his unusual eyes lighting up. ?That?s wizard!? Obi-Wan smiled at hearing one of Anakin?s favorite phrases. ?Are you going to see Anakin??

?Yes, we?re on our way to see him now,? Obi-Wan said.

Kree grinned, ?I saw him this morning, he?s one grumpy padawan!?

The men laughed at Kree?s tone, which was a mixture of exasperation and admiration.

?Yes, he?s quite unsettled at being cooped up in the Healer?s Ward,? Obi-Wan agreed. ?Well, I?m sure you have a class you must be off to. Come by our quarters some time, I?m sure Anakin will be glad for the company once the healer releases him. He?ll be bored out of his mind within a day, I?m sure.

Kree agreed to stop by as soon as Anakin was released. He looked back at Qui-Gon with a friendly smile and waved.

    ?Interesting boy,? Qui-Gon commented.

?One of Anakin?s many admirers,? Obi-Wan replied.

As they approached the door, Qui-Gon put his hand on Obi-Wan?s arm. ?You should go see your padawan alone, Obi-Wan,? he said.

    Obi-Wan looked at him. ?Why??

Qui-Gon smiled and gave a small chuckle. ?You need to explain some things to him. Why I came back, how I came back, things like that. It might be easier for him to accept alone with you.?

Obi-Wan shook his head and opened the door. ?Why don?t we ask him?? he said as they entered.

    ?Ask me what??

Obi-Wan turned at the sound of his padawan?s voice. Anakin was sitting up in the bed and seated in a chair by his bed was the pretty young senator from Naboo. She glanced up at them with a smile and stood.

?Master Kenobi, Master Jinn,? she said quietly. ?I haven?t had an opportunity to thank you yet?for saving my life.?

Obi-Wan was surprised to see the senator in Anakin?s room, and Qui-Gon?s words about his padawan?s feelings for her came back to him. He looked at Anakin, whose eyes were locked on Padme?s back, a slight smile playing about his lips. Anakin seemed to sense his master?s eyes upon him and looked his way. He flushed slightly but then turned his eyes right back on the senator, his lips set in a mutinous line.

?We?re only sorry you to go through such an experience, milady,? Qui-Gon said smoothly.

Obi-Wan forced himself to participate in this polite conversation. ?Yes, and we?re glad to see you?re feeling well. Have you completely recovered??

She laughed and came forward to grasp his hands. ?Yes, much better. Thank you. I?m truly grateful for all that you and Anakin and Master Jinn did, not only for me but for the galaxy.?

Anakin sat up a bit straighter in the bed on hearing her words of praise. She glanced back

Although word had not yet spread about the angels, his return from the dead was more than enough to cause comments when he was seen roaming the halls of the Temple. I should hope so!

Obi-Wan conceded the point with a gracious nod of his head, but wondered if the angels he believed in were the type with wings or the ones who hailed from Naboo. This is perfect Obi-Wan, dry, perceptive and extremely funny.

    Little happy dances of joy!

The young man shrugged; introspection had never been his strongest characteristic. ?I guess I didn?t wonder about it too much, you?re here and that?s enough for me.? He glanced at Obi-Wan. ?I figured you came back to help him.?

Obi-Wan was temporarily stunned by Anakin?s astute assessment. ?Why would you think that, padawan??

?You were still angry with him, but you missed him and needed him, too. Unfinished business and all that,? Anakin mumbled, not meeting the gaze of either man.

I loved how Anakin could see so clearly and matter-of-factly what Obi-Wan had to struggle to realize. It even furthers shows how desperately Obi-Wan needed Qui-Gon's help.

Obi-Wan conceded the point with a gracious nod of his head, but wondered if the angels he believed in were the type with wings or the ones who hailed from Naboo. He knew that Anakin?s strong feelings for Senator Amidala could cause difficulties.

Loved this also. It gives a nice little sense of foreshadowing.

    Excellent post.

Thanks to EVERYONE who has read this story! Thanks for all of the wonderful feedback AND the encouraging PM's! And thanks to all who have lurked and enjoyed.

PhoenixMage I think Padme will have to wait. I just feel this story is coming to an end, but I am considering writing more about this universe that still has Qui-Gon but Palpatine is gone. I feel there is a character here that is crying out to be written more. We shall see! :D

isola Thanks so much for reading! I've always just picture Obi-Wan as having a very good sense of humor, it is just that others don't always get it!

jedikma Now that Qui-Gon has shed some light on it, I'm sure he'll be watchful for any signs that Anakin is in love with the Nubian senator! YIKES!

Kynstar Thanks for reading! Anakin is gifted with moments of insight, they're rare but sometimes he can see a bit more clearly than his master. Not often, but enough to shock Obi-Wan, LOL!

Gina Yes, I'm guilty of foreshadowing! I sense a new story being born from this one, since I feel this one is winding down. I have more I'd like to do to...I mean WITH these characters before it is all over.

KSkywalker Not over quite yet, but very, very close.

SilSolo The angels have been the most fun to write. I love Birdsong, she'd make an amazing best friend, unless you didn't want to hear the truth.

Keeper_of_Swords I wanted to weave in Birdsong's words to Qui-Gon about Shmi, and let Anakin know of his mother's love and pride at the same time. Thanks for reading, and keep up the awesome work on the Troy story!

PadawanKitara Anakin can still manage to surprise his master! Hopefully more surprises in store in the future.

Thanks to everyone who has been reading and to red_rose_knight for this amazing plot bunny!
