The last episode of Vol 2 explains why Grievous coughs all the time, and why he didn't in the 1st Volume of Clone wars too- something which makes things seem a bit smoother!

 

Yeah ironically that was the only ep of season 2 I have actually seen, so at least when I saw GG coughing like an asthmatic, I wasn't confused as hell
