Snouting around the online stores as I usually do looking for proper fantasy books you fellas would call improper, I came across the Art of George Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. Nearly 200 pages of people and places in full colour art. And I thought, that looks good, might be I'll get it. So I'm thinking, why doesn't Star Wars do this?

Not the silly cliches of Ralph's movie locations, though not to say it didn't look good then, but actual events and battles and people of Star Wars history. Like Skywalker walking across Eol Sha's lava, or 1.5m Jaina somehow facing down 7 much heavier and taller super slayers . . . or Dark Woman [face_love] beating Hett jnr! . . . or Calrissian and Solo, sabaccing for the Falcon under ritzy casino lights. In the classification of Ian Flemming/Dave Dorman photorealistic style, of course.

Actual famous or not so famous events of past books and comics, but not regurgitated movie themes. I actually think it's a masterful idea, unseen in SW merchandising before. Why not do one? [face_praying]

Only, that Shadows of the Empire is localised to its content, and collector cards. I'm thinking a full hardcover of random book and comic events. :D

art of sw galaxy had random stuff. no matter if it was card artwork before.

and I want to see new stuff, not just remade stuff we saw in comics already. illustrating what hasn´t been seen before is interesting. like the lack of comics and art about NJO, YJK era, besides cover art.

the essential chronology will bring much more art for us, in color. I am looking forward to it.

I think that Abel Pena and Joe Corroney had been talking about something like this for Insider---that is, in-universe EU art in each issue.

***Not confirmed, though. All they did was mention that they talked about something like that.

And for the record, I'd love it too. Heck, I'd draw it too, if I was given a LFL implant. :p

Oh... that sounds awesome. Kind of like those Alex Ross books that have famous scenes from comic books all pretty-fied. I wouldn't mind seeing some EU scenes to put up on my walls or have in a hard cover. Nothing would make me happier than a photorealistic painting of Thrawn with a knife going through him... that would be so artistically done... hee hee.

Yeah, the comic art was rather abbreviated in that one.

I think what might hesitate Dark Horse is not all readers would know what book or comic those moments of artworks came from. But I'd buy its hardcover, I think. :D

It might take some hunting, but I would suggest buying The Art of Star Wars Galaxy. I just got vol. 1 today, and it is quite good. Some of the pics have an unknown canon status, but they're still very nice.

I love how the "Wookiee War Dance" gives almost the exact same impression as the RotS Wookiees. They are even using guns like the RotS Wookiees.

how many of them are there? I see one in amazon, the other at another bookstore.

Great Idea, Ex... it has my hundred bucks. if they include all the concept art from the entire company (videogames, comics, tv shows, and etc) it has the remainder of my bank account...(2 cents)

wasnt there a call for more of the celestia galactica scenes from visionaries too?

I'd love to see something like this. I'd especialy like to see the "artisticaly done" death scene, and Ton's death. Also, there's lots of great moments from NJO. Ganner's last stand at the very least.

Just got an Idea... there are a lot of good artist over at the Fan Art section of the boards... couldnt TFN make a project out of this? maybe combine it into a web scrapbook or gallery that has a particular theme.

I love the prequel 'Art of' books, and I used to buy the occasional WEG book for art as well. I'd totally buy a book full of EU art. Even if it's just pencil stuff.

They had that EU card set a few years ago, with pictures of characters and such... but collecting cards is such a pain. I'd much rather have a book, or regular Insider feature.

razzy1319 - has TFN added an EU section to their fan art gallery yet? That might be a good step. Never could bear to slodge through 'Miscellaneous.'

Oh yeah, I'd totally buy a book like this. To be honest, I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet. The New Essential Chronology will have to quench my undying thirst until a behemoth like this comes out.

Ganner's last stand and Ton's death have been done by Joe Corroney in the 'Best of EU' Insider feature I think.

They'd be able to put a little caption at the bottom - that way, when you see a cool one that makes you think, "Hey, I'd like to read about this", you'll know where to go. Awesome idea, Ex.
