Ernest only got to 5 before they went to DVD. That should be the threshold.

I think Resident Evil is about at that number now, too.

This coming weekend looks fairly underwhelming. Furious 6 might take that weekend too.

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm only getting 1 print of Now You See Me and 2 prints of After Earth. I run a 20 screen theater so that tells you they have more faith in the product from prior weeks.

Police Academy got to six (before DTV), as did Rocky as well.

After Earth intrigues me but, despite Will Smith, it's still M Night. Ill wait for reviews before I break my post-Happening vow.

I'll wait on reviews for both movies that are coming out. I'm more bent on seeing After Earth though at this point.

Star Trek into Darkness may turn out to be one of the two or three least successful Trek movies. It may do no better than 2 x budget. It has a few foreign markets left to open in, but it doesn't really look like it has the momentum to do much better than $400 million worldwide, if that. F&F 6 may do twice that globally. $800 million worldwide looks like a piece of cake.

After Earth has two weeks until Man of Steel opens. Its main problem is that the top 5 holdovers from Memorial Day will likely earn a combined $100 million between them on its opening weekend. Will and Jaden vs. the killer monkeys will get some business no matter how bad the reviews. And there aren't any reviews out yet. The lack of advance reviews is suspicious. Security is tight to protect against spoiler leaks, vs. this movie sucks and is being hidden from the media for as long as possible.

The new Will Smith movie is going to be stellar. I can barely contain my excitement. To all of you living in some fantasy land where this could somehow be an unenjoyable movie, I'll have one thing to say when Friday forces you back to reality:

I could see potentially where it might be good -- I don't hold out much hope, but I'm stuck in the UK for three weeks so might as well go!

No reviews up yet on RT. That can't be a good sign.

Why does Jaden always look dumbfounded that the sun is in his eyes?

It'll only be awesome if at some point Will Smith looks to his son and yells "WELCOME TO EARF"

One problem with the movie is that from the trailer Will Smith's character seems to be utterly humorless, an unfunny parody of Kurt Russell in Soldier if such a thing is possible. No one is used to seeing that from Smith.

Another problem is that it has some of the signs of a misguided vanity project, a la John Travolta and Battlefield Earth or Bruce Willis and Hudson Hawk. The idea seems so good when you get loaded and tell it to your barfly buddies.

Vanity project. I think that was the phrase I was looking for.

I wonder what the twist ending is going to be? They're actually all dead and Bruce Willis is an alien that can be defeated by water?

It's like Liam Neeson's "The Grey" set in space. Only not in space. On Earth. In the future. Where the whole earth is like the Alaskan wilderness. With monkeys.

Will Smith's character dies right before the end. The simulation ends. Jaden steps out of the holodeck and gets a survival adventure camp certificate of completion.

Batman? Although that's a very special case.
