HEY, my thread has nothing to do with this monstruosity. My thread debates the existence or not of SSD´s in GFFA post-RS. This thread debates tec. aspects of SSD´s.

Well that is not stated in the title. The title of the thread is "Super Star Destroyers." I think that that would cover just about anything concerning these ships.

To the point being discussed here, once upon a time, the ''Executor-class'' argument was lame. Just because they name sea-going vessels like that on Earth, dosen't mean they can't do it another way for space-going vessels in a galaxy far far away.

In fact, getting really nitpicky, how do NASA & the like class their shuttles/rockets/space going vessels? Certainly not in the maritime manner.

    Nah, ten minutes.

This topic is WAY too old and the man who started it was absolutely out of his mind.

-sorry, got here late and only read the first page but had to scream at ATATzsinj-

    WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!?

Super is the correct terminology, as is Imperial.

    lol

I foresee us debating how long this thread will last far longer than either of us estimate.

    ... One hour.

This thing is over 2 years old?

    What is it doing?

I can't believe it, but one of my first posts is on the previous page. I had terrible typing... oh my.

So, why exactly was it brought up? I'm assuming Sturm unlocked it too.

I unlocked it and upped it just for a curiosity. It's one of the few still-existing threads from 2000.

Yes, a salute, and boy was I ever off on how long it would stay around.

That is actually a good question. The answer is 8 km....I think.

    You're evil...

    ... :)

Do you want the latest measurement, or the measurement for some other time period?

This thread is a good reminder of the way QUOTING should still be done. Still one of the most annoying things of the "new" boards...

...Hmmmmm, I guess they're not so new anymore. [face_mischief]

    :D hehehee...

going by the logic of the spaceships in the gffa being named by the first ship in their class, wouldn't the first destroyer haved to have been named star, therefore making that type of shp a star destroyer?

    :D

Not that i really think thats true...

    palpatineson:

The most recent measurement, as stated by LFL twice, is 12.8km. If we want to degenerate this into a SSD-length debate, I suggest we do it in a separate thread -- I can provide a link to a suitable one.

The statement that the SSD cannot be called Super-class, but Executor-class, because the first ship is named Executor is missing a small point.

I have never read the Marvel comics that dealt with the launching of the Executor, but from what I can gather, Vader named the ship Executor. Now, what if the ship was originally named The Super during it's construction?

Zsinj's Iron Fist was originally named the The Brawl until he was given leave to change the name. Vader might have done the same, changing the name to Executor from Super before the ship was officially launched, and the Imperials never changed the class name.

If I'm wrong regarding the Executor launch and Vader's naming, then this idea will disappear into a limbo and I will hang my head in shame . . .

We must stop this insanity. Noone should ever post anything about Super Star Destroyers or Executor-Class Destroyers or 5 miles or 12.8 km or 8km or Super Imperial Iron Fists ever again, ever. This is an unresolvable issue, moreso than deciding what is canon or not.

    Heh, lurker here surfacing.

The length part will never be resolved because of the "actual" measurements made on the movie's film.

From what I remember, one of the strongest argument against the name "Super" was that its ridiculamous to name the first ship of a class, The "Super".

I would think the Imperials will name their ships whatever the heck they want. Besides, its been called Super class for so long in novels, and this IS the Lit forum... Majority rules?
