Hey, it depends what kind of scene you'd be delving into, right.

This panel is brilliant. Overall, my favorite part of the entirety is your usage of the timing between gutters, but this particular panel is composed very thoughtfully. While it is easily the most static of the panels you've opted to share, there is a commendable grasp of storytelling in this layout and your avoidance of the trap of centering kinda puts the ! on the framing.

He wouldn't give you false or misleading advice about comics. Believe me.

Okay well in that case... thanks!
But I must admit I don't understand half of it.

I don't know much about comic books. Or art. Or design, but I like the style. I've never thought about it much before, other than reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, but representing movement in a still frame must be very difficult.

I thought you'd like the story, Jabba, but ever since you slagged John Carter I'm not so sure :p

How could I not like the story? Sci fi? Proxima Centauri? That's only 24.8 trillion miles from earth, according to wolfram alpha. Skimpily clad girls and "erected" temples? This hits the sweet spot.

Looks pretty cool. Who do you envision being casted in the live action version? :p

If you're really interested in comic books as a serious medium, you should start here.

This is one of my favorites too. I think "It's a mythic corpse!" is one of my favorite lines from the comic.

I got that, yyyyyears ago... must be ten years ago already. Loved it, got the sequel, and that was too much. You're right, I should read it again.

I'd show you the wormhole to get there, but I don't think it complies with the TOS...
Anyway, the science part of it is legit; I've been fortunate to have gotten @Lowbacca_1977's extensive input on anything remotely astronomic. So if stuff doesn't add up, please be so kind as to direct all complaints to him :p

Pacing and creating a sense of time in sequential art preoccupy me. I am being dead serious... I am thinking about page layouts and gutter use while I am doing everything else... including sex with my wife... including posting on here. We go out to dinner with friends and I am mapping out panels in my mind. So, I tend to look for people who don't take the lazy route in their layouts. Your samples work. They were each composed wisely, without falling into a reliance on centering or feeling a need to always show the subject's faces. Think cinematically and your comic books will always succeed. Like Eisner did with the Spirit... move the 'camera' all around... 'film' from above, below, diagonally, etc. And you certainly have a grasp on space. I keep a framed print of one single Herge panel from Tintin in Tibet above my board... and Tintin is literally a small blot of ink just left of center. This panel is perfect. It is what I am preoccupied in mastering:

Wow, that just happens to be the Tintin I'm currently reading with the kid! Three years old and crazy about Tintin, what more do you want. What I like most about Tintin in Tibet is that it's one of the most suspenseful Tintins, yet doesn't really feature a villain.

Thank you for your kind words, I do understand what you mean now... I guess I was surprised by your use of the word 'gutter', as this comic isn't set up to have a traditional page layout... it's just panels, all the same size. In the story, the main character has a camera buzzing around her that records everything for the viewers at home, and that's what you see. It's basically Big Brother in space.
