JCC Sushi?

Yum! I love sushi. I have two varieties that I love.

The ones with tempura shrimp, soft shell crab, and cream cheese.

Then we get into the blends with veggies inside. I like asparagus, cucumber.

On top, I like roe and spicy mayo.

 

I make a sushi-themed cold rice salad. Sushi rice mixed with sliced cucumbers, ginger, pickled ginger, sesame seeds, a bit of crumbled seaweed wrapper, and a marinade made from a bit of sesame and flaxseed oil mixed with rice wine vinegar and a bit of sugar and mirin.

 

Mmmm that sounds so good jabbadabadoo. I trust there are leftovers that you can send me?

actually, the original recipe is a bit different, and probably better. Should never leave out the green onions.

I'm eating some as I read this. Living in Puerto Rico, you will find in almost all of the sushi places here a "criollo" roll. Basically its a philly roll with sweet plantain on top. Its really good.

I love all kinds of sushi. The lobster roll from the local place here is killer.

 

Sushi with cream cheese?

Dear god what have you people done.

Next you'll tell me you mix wasabi and soy. Or add soy to sushi (it's for sashimi).

 

And I bet they stick the sashimi in the soy rice side down. Savages.

 

(You would normally just get sashimi as fish itself, with miso and rice on the side. But even still. SAVAGES)

I remember when my local 7/11 had sushi. It was pretty good for only 3.99.

The best I've had was a Japanese buffet in Taipei. Taiwan was under Japanese occupation for some time, and there exists a strong pro-Japanese streak in the capital as well as lingering Japanese influence. Food is one such area, with a number of Japanese establishments through the city.

The buffets had a literal all you can eat sashimi bar, where chefs would cut delicious slice after delicious slice of raw fish. It was pricey as hell, but worth it.

I like how the local Japanese place to me had "sushi, sashimi, and California rolls", noting how the latter is not actually the former.

There's a sushi counter at two local store chains and thankfully, the ones who make it work at local restaurants and come in before their lunch shifts. When you need sushi on the go and crave the taste, it's definitely convenient.

 

Don't you Scandinavians eat fish that's been buried and rotted or something?
