Does your SW collecting addiction cause you grief? Late bills? Fights w/the spouse? Sleep deprivation? Does your life seem to become unmanageable at times?

Just chattin with a fellow JC member and the idea came up. Anyone be interested in joining a SW Anonymous group/thread/cafe? You'd use sock IDs if prefered.

This is not a mockery of NA/AA/CA/GA

...this could just be a thread to blow off steam on SW collecting hassles too ;)

Well I'm still pretty much still a kid.....I don't have any of those worries yet. Sometimes I get up early and head to the stores to see if any new SW figures have come in. I guess you can call that sleep deprivation. :p Anyhow, I love all the things that come with collecting. They're part of the experience. Although this has definitely not been one of the best collecting years for me (as rings true for most SW collectors), I still enjoy the search for toys. It's fun. It a good hobby because you can enjoy yourself without having to deal with the pressures of life. I know that not being able to find stuff for a while can be frustrating and aggravating, but its all part of the experience.

Ehh, what worries me is it's realy ripping into my other hobbies account's. I just bought a TIE Bomber yesterday with money I should be spending on a huge paintball tournoment in less then a week.

Well, I'm 15, and I feel being a teenager is probabaly the worst age for collecting.

I usually resort to getting stuff online because I'm "too old to be buying toys" and too young to by it for "my kid". If I do see something I want in the shops, I usually give it to my mum and she pays for it while I look at computer games. However, my mum isn't always around y'know?

Then there's the half-bullying. Gid knows how many star trek jokes get made up about me.

e.g. A helicopter appears. "Look Guff, it's the Star Wars Enterprise coming to beam you up"

Then there's the people who just refuse to say that Star Trek and Star Wars are differnt.

    Grrrrrrrr.

Yeah, really guys. Think of it this way:

Let's say you work at TRU or something. THOUSANDS of people come in every week buying toys. Adults, little kids with their moms, teenagers, 20-somethings... Every age.

You don't care who's buying what or why, you just want to get done with the customer so you can finish up the line and go on break or go home. Who cares if a 5 year old is buying the toys with his mom or a 15 year old by himself, or a 35 year old with his wife? You just want to move on to the next guy in line.

Honestly guys, the checkout people aren't going to make fun of you or anything, geez.

Just pretend that you're buying it for a little brother or a little cousin or something. ;)

Tsk, tsk, c'mon guys. Don't be ashamed to be a geek! Revel in it! (Like me! :D )

If you can't fully embrace your geek in public, join your local fanforce (like me! :p ) and they'll help ya. ;)

What's your line? Mines "Hey, I'm looking for something for my little cousin, he's really into StarWars."

But, I stopped doing that some time ago. Now I just walk in, get what I want, and get out. And the chick at TRU totally digs me, she's asked for my number :p But she must have a really bad memory, she asks everytime. What's up with that?

I don't care what people think whenever I buy SW items. I just go in, and then usually leave because there's nothing new. Other times, I go in, buy something, and leave. If I find something, I'm happy. I'm not gonna let somebody's negative feelings on me ruin that happinness.

It's not the checkout chick I'm worried about, it's the people around me, someone that I know might see me. I'm proud to be a geek, and I show it, but theres still some people out there who would find it great fun to make fon of a 15-yr old buying toys.

Just ignore them. Try and go along with what they're saying. For example, if they start making SW jokes at you, just say that they're right and try to have fun. If you do that, they'll know they're not getting to you anymore and they'll leave you alone.

Yeah, the best way to get along with people who think our geekiness is silly and amusing is just to play along with them, and so forth.

It sets a much better mood (and makes you look at yourself with kind of a sense of humor as well, and not to take everything as seriously). :)

But with some people it aint star wars jokes. Let's just say swearing is involved.

Dude, if you're going to a toys only store, aren't the only people that see you going to be buying toys as well? Or do they just follow you around and wait for you to mess up? :p

Ahh hell, I'm a *cough* 30 *cough* something year old female who's known as a collector by the KB and TRU folks... they think it's kinda cool. I go in and occasionally buy one or two peices at a shot and they know it's for me!

Heck, one of the clerks was telling me when they got their new shipments in although they wouldn't know what's on them...

I hear you Breezy, I am a 31 year old collector. I feel like an old man around here.
Every time I buy something at TRU they ask me if I want a gift receipt. I used to say yes, but now I just tell them that the toys are for me.

To answer the original subject of the post?the only problems that I have had lately are dealing with road construction on my toy shopping trips and a dent in the wallet.

I'm 27, and as my name states, I am a Star Wars "junkie". I cannot help but go to a toy department wherever I go. Shoot, I even went to a Target while I was on vacation just to go toy shopping. And I took my wife with me!

And it doesn't stop there. For Christmas last year, most of my friends gave me Star Wars figures. And for my birthday last month, I received a gift card to Toys R Us. I will think up any excuse to visit Toys R Us, Target or Wal-Mart.

I'm a toy addict, and I am damn proud of it.

*waits for the men in white jackets to haul him away.*

No, I won't let you take me without a fight! I refuse to go!

    Ok, I'll go peacefully. But do you mind if we stop by Wal-Mart first? I just need some....toothpaste, yea that's it. 8-}

    LMAO!

This same thing has happened to me every time I go into TRU.... alone/with my wife/with my kids...
What's the story, does TRU run an escort service on the side?
    :)
