FLORIDA PANHANDLE^~All of the light sabers on George Lucas' planet
Tattoine couldn't defend #1 Star Wars Artist Dave Dorman from the
devastation his home incurred from Hurricane Ivan this past
Thursday. Luckily, Dorman, a longtime friend and supporter to
illustrator colleagues worldwide, is getting by with a little help
from his friends. Business partner Steve Smith has launched a
philanthropic Web site, www.friendsofdavedorman.com where
illustrators can donate their works to help defray the costs of the
extensive damage to Dorman's Florida Panhandle home.

At 2 a.m. on September 16, 2004, a tornado clipped the roof of
Dorman's home, causing extensive water damage to the interior.
Although Dorman's art studio and oil paintings were not affected,
the home is largely uninhabitable, and Dorman's wife is eight-and-a-
half months pregnant. "I am humbled and overwhelmed by the
kindnesses shown to me by my illustrator friends, many of whom I've
never had the pleasure of meeting in person," Dorman said. "I hope
to repay them someday, somehow."

Damn, that sucks. Dave's proably my favorite SW artist (since he did those wonderful Tenel Ka pics for the YJK covers)

 

Thanks for the head's up, Joe! This is sad news, indeed. I was forced to evacuate because of the hurricane, and my home was spared.

I can sympathize with those who weren't so lucky. Hopefully the SW community will rally around one of our own in their time of need.

 

Glad to see you made it out ok Ghengis, last I had heard you were incommuacado due to storm.

Joe, let Dave know taht our best whishes and thoughts are with him, and that he'd be welcome with open arms if he stoped by here too (though needless to say, that'd be way later, since he's gona be busy.)

He lives in my town. And apperantly my sister's friend knows him. Awesometacular.

 

That's awesome that his frieends are supporting him so. I'd like to help, but I've had my own troubles with Charlie and Frances...
