ST SW Episode VII to OPEN DECEMBER 18, 2015

Honestly though I was shocked it got greenlit for a sequel after poor grosses here in the states.

 

Awesome. I always thought Star Wars and the holidays were two things that would mix extremely well together.

 

I was hoping for a May 2015 release. Oh well, besides release dates are changed all the time. Who knows if this date will actually stick or not.

 

Fine by me.

 

Purchasing the SW franchise is now considered a "sunk cost" for Disney. The movie would have to perform abysmally at the box office - which I don't see as even remotely plausible - in order to get them to decide that the whole franchise is worth putting on the shelf.

Judge Dredd took in $34 million. E7 will beat that on midnight showings alone.

 

Welp, getting in line now. See you in 2 years.

 

Star Wars now has the same amount of time to finish that any blockbuster you know of has had. Unless the script isn't finished by April/May, which I'm highly doubting will be the case, production has more than enough time to finish.

 

I'm all for destroying a tradition for a new month that has the great feels, kids out of school, and the ability to dominate the BO from December to Feb of 2016.

And just imagine the Star Wars related christmas @#$^. And don't forget the toys will come out in November. Always a month before.

I'm thinking the teaser will be in front of The Hobbit in 2014. I think the release date tells us they're not sticking to tradition. I do think they will release the title at Comic-Con 2014.

 

as ive said in another thread Star wars opened up in the UK around Xmas time, will be emotional for those of us that saw it in 77/78. To be taking my then 8 yr old and 5yr old will be mindblowing.....

 

Nah, it'll obviously premiere during an episode of Star Wars Rebels to boost it's ratings.

 

If we haven't had a teaser by then, I am guessing that it will be attached to Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April 2014

 

That tradition was destroyed the moment it was understood that the opening Fox logo was going to be replaced by the Disney logo. The rest is merely a formality. I'm still happy with this.

 

Although they're not calling it Christmas anymore. They're changing it to Life Day. (Disney really is powerful!)

do we know officially what they are going to do with this now? Thought/hoped they may keep the disney logo discreet to keep continuity (straight into Lucasfilm logo maybe)...there maybe riots if there is no opening crawl or inclusion of opening credits

 

Expect tons of movies to move dates. No way Warcraft comes out the same day as VII.
