A four year wait for Episode VIII? I can see May 2018, but not 2019.

If I was betting on it - I would say EP8 for May 2018 & EP9 May 2020......I think they really want to go back to May & Dec 2015 is a one off............

    If
J.J. Abrams > Irvin Kershner (judging whole body of work)

    is true

    and

    If
Arndt, JJ Abrams, Kasdan > or = to Kasdan and Brackett

    is true

    therefore
    Episode VII > Episode V

    Hooray for logic!

I'd rather watch Robocop 2 than Star Trek Into Darkness any day.

I do not share those sentiments. :)

I bet you had to look up Irvin Kershner's movies...

I admit I don't know Kershner's entire filmography offhand, but I've seen a few and am aware of a few more. I didn't look anything up before making that statement, which I stand by. You may be right about his overall filmography being less than stellar but I know he made quite a few more movies than Abrams has and none of Abrams's films make me think he's any better. In fact I've seen three films by each of them and of those six I thought TESB was good, Robocop 2 and ST09 were ok, and the rest were garbage. I would imagine there must be at least one other gem in Kershner's filmography, but even if that's the best he has to offer, they may both be hacks but Kersh still wins out. If you include JJ's TV work it might even out, but TV and film have very different sensibilities, and I still think JJ's are better suited to the former.

I'd rather watch Robocop 2 as well, but that has less to do with the Directors than it does with the actors.

So, I know this is an odd question to ask in a spoiler forum but whilst shopping for X-Mas gifts will your eye go towards the Episode 7 merch or stray away in fear of spoilers?

....also I ask because I wanted to see The Clock again. In all it's glory.

I for one will be avoiding merch like the plague...

Merchandise was the main thing that spoiled some big plot points for ROTS for me back in '05. Things that I would've enjoyed MUCH more not knowing. The biggest of these was that I saw an image on a ROTS calendar in Barnes and Noble a couple months before ROTS came out-which had an image of Dooku at Anakin's mercy, as he held a blue and red lightsaber crossed in front of Dooku's neck, about to cut off his head. I was SO bummed when I saw that-I swore to that day, NO MORE SW merch for me until the movie comes out!

I also found out from some random website about a year before ROTS that Anakin would force choke Padme, and that Darth Vader would scream "Nooo" and lay waste to the medical chamber he was in, at hearing that Padme was dead...I spent the whole time during the movie, wondering when those parts would come!

So yeah-After we start getting a decent inflow of news, I will be heading over to 7NSA, and avoiding ALL merchandise! Just trailers and official info for me!!

It WILL be tough-but I can stick it out! :-B

They should just keep the 3 year gap going:

    Episode VII: 12/18/15
    Episode VIII: 5/18/18
    Episode IX: 5/21/21

Definitely won't avoid all merch, but the types of merch that are likely to contain some spoilers (books, the above-mentioned calendars, etc.) I will definitely steer clear of.

Either that or I'll wait to start my holiday shopping in 2015 until December 19.

Agreed. That would be a long wait, but the spin-offs (or a TV-series) would make it shorter.
There's also the tradition of ST trilogies crossing the decades thus making 2020's the sixth decade in a row with a SW movie.

I love the idea that random internet people with little clue as to how the industry works and zero knowledge of how the production is progressing can tell the production is behind schedule.

I would most certainly NOT watch Robocop 2 over Into Darkness. Robocop 2, is a sometimes brilliant, but often very bad film which really misses a lot of the ridiculous camp of the first Robocop. Now if you asked me if I'd rather watch Into Darkness over Never Say Never Again... that's a different story... Connery back... I'm there, one of my favorite foreign actors, Klaus Maria Brandauer playing the villain... I'm so there. Oh, and add the deliciously campy performance by the lovely Barbara Carerra, and you make for a fun return to old-school Connery Bond.

I wonder when they'll start registering trademarks and domain names and if we'll be able to find them out as easily as we did ten or so years ago.
