I ran into this thread over in Costumes & Props. Unbelieveable!!! They built a 1/2 scale AT-ST out of foam insulation, 2x4's and cardboard tubes!!!

    Here are the pics:

    Now that just absolutely rocks!!!

    The materials involved were:

1" foam insulation Foam (Body and details)... 2" Foam insulation Foam (Feet)... 1/2" Plywood for the legs... minor framing with 2x4 (about 8 feet total)... and the rolls from Christmas paper...I believe the total cost was under $300... and about 60 hours I think... over 6 weeks...

Now according to the SW Databank, a real AT-ST would b 8.6 meters tall, or 28.22 feet tall. A 3/4 scale one to match the X-Wing would be 21.16 feet tall if my math is correct. Just in case anyone was wondering... ;)

Mythbusters tried that and couldn't produce the infamous "brown note." [face_sick]

The question is, would WOTR allow something like this in their facility?

Someone needs to build a 3/4 scale TIE fighter... and hopefully not the competition. >D

    Kewl.

Also, I'm petitioning to get the old travelling FF banner sent out to WOTR when it is retired. (They are going to be replacing it soon so there is a new one for C4). I figure it would look good next to the X-Wing. ;) If the Museum will take it....

There was actually discussion on this on the garrison board after the first event. It sorta fizzled away like most large-scale projects do (like our mobile sandcrawler caravan for C3). The problem with building a TIE is that a normal TIE is 17 feet tall. Even at 3/4 scale like the X-Wing, that's still a little over 12 feet tall.

An Interceptor would be more practical, but you still have the problem of actually having the time to build it.

The thing that I found interesting about this one was that it was made out of foam, in addition to the plywood and 2x4's, so it might theoretically be lighter and easier to make.

I'd say an interceptor would be absolutely killer sitting next to the X-Wing. [face_devil]
