I remember the one where the interviewed the guy who made Carbonite, and he gave general tips, but I don't recall them having an issue about how to actually make a fan film.

Mert, You're thinking of "Star Wars Insider". I know that issue well, since I'm in it. (<------ Se that, another blatant plug, I'm getting soooo good at that)

And you are right, the creator of Carbonite did the story on fanfilm creation tips in that issue. He wrote it before his film was selected for the Atomfilms contest, from which he won the sound award.

With all due respect to Fenn and the rest of the AtomFilms FanFilmmakers, I still think it fairly ironic how they focus on an AtomFilms style FanFilm for a "How to" article rather than someone such as Nick Hallam, Joe Monroe, Shane Felux, Chris Hanel, etc.

Of course, "Star Wars Insider" is a Lucasfilm Ltd. sponsored/endorsed publication. ;)

Of course, "Star Wars Insider" is a Lucasfilm Ltd. sponsored/endorsed publication.

Which is why it's not at all ironic that they'd write about Atomfilms contestants. :)

For that matter, the article written by Mark Rusciano - despite the generic title "How to Make A Star Wars Fanfilm" - is in fact an article describing how he planned his film specifically to be something AtomFilms would select as a finalist. With good results, obviously!

Yes, but Star Wars Insider readers are really only going to get half of the story - the "AtomFilms Contest Restrictions" story. ;)

Luckily, I know I have seen reference to TheForce.Net in the Star Wars Insider,
so at least readers who look into TFN can explore further into what a "non-restricted" FanFilm looks like. [face_mischief]

Remember high school when they taught you the different kinds of propoganda techniques?

SW Insider is first and foremost a corporate publication, not a news publication.

Its gonna be in: Star Wars Magazine#50
    On Sale: 15 April 2004

This is the offical UK Star Wars Magazine not the insider.

    The artical description is:

    Special Report!

    Own Star Wars Film!
Everything you need to know to
create your own Star Wars fan fil.
    Plus: The Fan-Film-making Award

I'll bet my eye tooth that they don't touch on . ..

    * How to contact the 501st for Stormtrooper involvement
    * How to create lightsaber effects
    * How to create Star Wars-ish props (well, maybe)
    * How to create an authentic opening crawl and end title sequence
    * Where to find authentic Star Wars sound effects
    * Where to find the best models, meshes and backgrounds
    * Where to view some of the BEST Star Wars FanFilms for inspiration and reference

    etc., etc., etc., . . . . . .

Yeah, I got it too. I was gonna look for this thread and bump it but I never had the time. It's a good issue and I love my new big Grievous poster :). The guide to making your own fanfilm though is pretty poor. Most of the other fanfilm parts is just coverage of the 2003 Fanfilm Awards and the only time it mentioned TFN was that TFN offered to host Trooper Clerks.

    Owen ;)

EDIT: Nope TAC, they don't mention
