I'm not sure we really want to advertise the fact that (most) New Zealanders are booze-happy fools, do we??


I'm not sure "SWNZ" would mean much to others, but there's no way there's enough room in a 50x50 icon to spell it out in full - at least not without making it REALLY busy/untidy.

I quite like the new Kiwi though.

Nice work though!

 

Something I learnt the other day while trying to design a new brochure was that in some cultures putting words over images of people is a big no-no, so things like the title banner at the top and some of these icon designs shouldn't be done like that.

Of course, you only worry about such things if you're being "Politically Correct" (or have to totally re-design a brochure!), but some of you might like to know about it.

 

I like the kiwi one looks fab geat job D_W!!

 

Maybe we should get some more of the tangata whenua culture involved. Perhaps some Maori influence? I'm part Cook Island Maori myself a generation or two back and I think it just makes us look classier as a FF chapter if we take our local heritage into account.

Just a suggestion.

The icons are great just the way they are, but here are some other stuff that'd be cool to see.

- Temuara Morrison ("you're not in Kamino anymore, Dr Fett!")
- TV kiwi and the cat? most users over the age of about 20 should remember them. they ruled. where'd they go?
- Death Star in shape of rugby ball, commanded by Darth Lomu (!)

TV Kiwi and the cat were (usually) only there to shut down the signal at the end of each night's broadcasting, but when TV went 24 hours they were made redundant. These days TV Kiwi is living comfortably in a small retirement home on the Hibiscus Coast just north of Auckland city, thanks to successfully investing his redundancy money. As for the cat, well he unfortunately used up the last of his nine lives a few years ago and is buried under a cherry tree in the garden of the same retirement home.

Maybe, although I don't remember that.

The final shutdown was an animated sequence where the TV Kiwi puts out the cat and milk bottles and turns off the lights, etc. They played it EVERY night at broadcast shutdown, but it was also played "by request" on shows like FairGo.

Maybe the "Adult Time" one was just a static image of the TV Kiwi with a voice over.

i'm sure i remember something like that, back in the days of the early bed time.

 

Yeah - the kiwi was also blamed for "tripping over the plug" whenever South Pacific Television had technical difficulties, which was a weekly occurence back in the 70s.

Yep, I remember the "Clumsy TV Kiwi" one - that was just a stil image.

Yea, I like the jedi kiwi one. How about we all make an official vote? It's better not to do it as a poll, so we don't get sock voting and outsiders.

Just in case anyone worries about such things I should say that the original Jedi Kiwi was only party my creation - it was based on the Hillary Commission's KiwiSport programme characters (specifically the KiwiSoftball character) which I then modified, eg. replacing the softball bat with a lightsaber, etc.

Once before when I modified one of their Kiwis for someone (officially connected to KiwiSport) we got a bit of a telling off. Mind you, the Hillary Commission no longer exists.
