Take The TPM Challenge

It is very simple, If you are a Basher, list in no specific order, 10 things that you liked about TPM. Likewise, if you are a Gusher, list in no specific order, 10 things that you didn't like about TPM. Also if you are Neutral, list in no specific order 5 things you did like and 5 things you didn't like about TPM.

The purpose of this is to see what parts people who overall didn't like the movie did like about it, and what parts people who overall did like the movie didn't like about it. Have fun.

 

Well, I suppose i'm a basher, so here's some things I liked.

1. Darth Maul's entrance for the duel of the fates.

2. Watto wasn't bad.

3. Darth Sidious.

4. Palpatine's political machinations.

5. The music. Great, despite the fact parts of it were cut and edited in a really akward way.

6. Qui-Gon's funeral. A good scene. Probably should have been the last scene.

7. I enjoyed the pod race, if only because it was a break from the tedious Tattoine scenes proceeding it.

8. The few times Obi-Wan got to crack one-liners were good.

9. I thought the Nemoidians were kind of funny. I'm probably the only basher who thinks that.

10. Darth Maul. Too bad he died in such a lame way.

 

Well I liked TPM, so here goes:

1) Anakin's "Yipee"
2) Everything about Jar Jar
3) Battle Droids "Oh-Oh blast them"
4) "Roger, Roger" (Wasn't that used in the film "Airplane")
4) Yoda looked nothing like PT Yoda
5) Fode and Bede (I think that was their names, I'm talking about the Podracer commentators)

this is beginning to get difficult...

6) C3PO being built by Anakin
7) Darth Maul got killed
8) The actor who played Wald missing his que to high five with Kitster
9) Lack of relationship between Yoda and Obi-Wan (Yoda should be more of a teacher to Obi-Wan)
10) I thought Obi-Wan should've discovered Anakin, not Qui-Gon.

Man, thats harder than it seems.

well that was next to impossible. i got stuck at #4 hahaha

 

I loved Episode I, so here's my list, in no specific order of course.

1. Aurra Sing


2. Jar Jar stepping in icky-icky goo.


3. The eopie shot


4. Fode and Beed


5. Anakin's "Mom, you always say the biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other anymore" line.


6. Amidala's "Get to your ships!" line. Sounded great in the trailer, but was too deep voiced in the film.


7. Midichlorians


8. Reversing the film during the hanger battle; it bugs me when people fire "switch" gun hands.


9. Jar Jar's antics during the battle/falling on the cannon.


10. Standmaidens during the "Kiss your franchise good-bye" scene. We get a clearer view of them than some of the actual handmaidens.

1. Captain Obvious.
2. Yoda Puppet
3. In the arena, when Jar Jar's fixing the pod.. "Pee Yousa".. it was the worst of all the poop jokes.
4. The podrace was a tad too long.
5. "After the storm's over I'll show you my racer. I'm building a podracer." can we sa repetition?
6. Talk much, Mr. Maul?
7. What the heck does bombad mean?!
8. "Yippie!"
9. "Woo-hoo!" (I'm running out of ideas. )
10. No one got their hand cut off. Oh sure, Maul got cut in half, but he didn't lose a hand.

 

Things i liked (Neutral)
1.Palpatines clever scheme that ultimately places him in charge of the Galactic Republic.
2.Seeing Coruscant,it is truly a beautifull planet even if it is repulsive in a way to completely destroy a planets entire natural enviroment with artificial buildings and technology.
3.The lightsaber battles,the Jedi and the Sith are incredible to watch especially in lightsaber combat wether it be dueling each other or slicing and dicing battle droids left and right.
4.Darth Maul,a true Sith Lord no good in him,no mercy,not a weak man in an iron mask like Darth Vader was.
5.finding out the backstory of Star Wars for the first time.

Things i didnt like:
1.Flimsy plot hole allows a ten year old boy with zero combat training to score a lucky accidental hit that allows the pathetic heroes to win,this would never happen in real life.
2.Pod Racing,just another stupid thing that didnt belong in the movie and showed how reckless Qui-Gon Jinn was.
3.Darth Mauls death,it was stupid how he just stood there taunting obi-wan he should have destroyed qui-gons lightsaber and then forced pushed obi-wan off of that thing on the pits wall that he was hanging off of.
4.The stupidity of the Trade Federation,their Battle Droids had no individual power packs to enable them to keep fighting in case the droid control ship was knocked out,it seems that the neimodians are too stupid to think of this idea until years later when its logical to develop alternatives beforehand in case of an emergency.
5.Jar Jar Binks,this little idiot has no value at all until he tells the Queen that the Gungans have a grand army,which BTW is easily defeated and only spared from total destruction by Anakin's accidental hit destroying the control ship.

 

I'm a gusher, so here it goes in no particular order:

1. Over-reliance of Special Effects in some areas.
2. Some of the sound effects were annoying
3. The Fart Joke
4. Kitster
5. Too many alien characters, not enough humans
6. Editing of the music during the end battle sequence
7. Battle Droid design
8. Build-up to the Podrace was too long
9. Amidala's deep voice
10. Took itself a little too seriously

That was actually pretty hard to do.

 

things I didn't like:

1) The Midichlorians.
2) The Queen's weird voice.
3) When those poor droids got blasted off the hull of the ship while screeching.
4) I felt the Jedi Council came off as cold and unfeeling around young Anakin.
5) Aurra Sing.
6) Sio Bibble's beard.
7) The shiny ship ... all I could think about was 'wouldn't it blind people!'
8) Rats Tyrell dying after his wife had just given birth. I didn't even find out about this until the DVD ...
9) That weird thing Boss Nass would do with his mouth. Gross.
10) I felt there could have been a little more dialogue between Obi-Wan and Anakin, considering it is their relationship which would be central to the later movies.

 

Alrighty, I loved TPM, so here's a list of what I didn't like: (btw, this is a GREAT thread idea!!! )

(just in the order I thought of them)
1. The fact that Qui-Gon Jinn died. He was my favorite character!

2. Ric Ole. All of his lines were dumb.

3. Aurra Sing. She had the potential to be really cool, and nothing was done with her.

4. "Now this is podracing!" What??? Give me a break. He was in a naboo star fighter! PODRACING is podracing.

5. The midichloridans "measuring " force potential.

6. The Eoopie fart.

7. Jar Jar. Actually.... ALL the gungans.

8. Sio Bibble.

9. That fruit stand lady... I can't remember her name off the top of my head. Jorja or something. Her whole scene was sucky.

10. The scene where anakin gives padme the necklace. Talk about cheesey. We didn't need that at all.

Arggg it took me awhile to come up with some of these!

I hate the film, so here goes:

1. Darth Maul entering the Naboo hangar.
2. Darth Maul and the Jedi fighting.
3. Darth Maul attacking Qui-Gon on Tatooine.
4. Darth Maul sending his probe droids away.
5. Darth Maul and Darth Sidious on Coruscant
6. Senator Palpatine making Amidala go for
the vote of no confidence
7. That guy who walks through Mos Espa alone
yet he is talking to someone because they
digitally removed the "someone"
8. Qui-Gon slashing the Sith Probe
(Deleted scene)
9. The music during the duel in the desert.
10. R2 *did* look good come to think of it

 

I'm (sort of) a basher, so:

Things I sort of liked:

1. Coursant (ripped-off from "Metropolis", "Things to Come" and other past "future" utopian/dystopian cityscapes, but still pretty.)
2. I really liked the portrayal of Palpatine and McDermit gives the movie's best performance.
3. The swim to Otha Gungan was visually interesting.
4. R2 saved the day.
5. The Yoda puppet wasn't on screen that long.


(Honestly, I can't come up with 10. This is the best I could do.)

I´m trying to spread my unconditional love for TPM

 

Well I'm a Gusher so here are some things I don't like about TPM.

1) Darth Maul doesn't talk much. He talks more in that "Tone Poem".
2) Jar Jar Binks "foolishness" at the battle of Naboo, especially when gungans are dying around him.
3) Darth Maul's short death.
4) The obvious relation between Darth Sidious and Senator Palpatine.
5) The word "lightsabre" is never used in the first episode. What for the future of children or adults who never find out the name until episode 2?
6) Obi-Wan's attitude towards Anakin and Jar Jar Binks.
7) For some characters, we never actually find out the name unless you look at the credits.

That's all I can think of at this time.

 

5 Things I Liked:

1. The subplots about the fall of the Republic and Anakin being the Chosen One.

2. Liam Neeson's performance.

3. Ian McDiarmid's performance.

4. The mythological subtexts the film had.

5. The visual effects, ie lightsabers, podrace and locales.

5 Things I Didn't Like

1. The immediate plot (invasion of Naboo etc).

2. Some of the other acting.

3. Jar Jar Binks (sometimes).

4. Anakin flukily destroying the Control ship.

5. Some of the dialogue.

 

Hmmm...I'm a basher, so here goes, things I liked:

1-Even though I didn't like Qui Gon unsurping Kenobi's role I loved Neeson's acting. The best in the movie, next to Ian's. Certainly reminded me why I liked some of his films like "Michael Collins" (his finest film, as far as I'm concerned)

2-Duel of the Fates! Great fight, and the music was glorious!

3-Padme without make-up

4-What little moments of Obi Wan lights me up Especially love his powerful shout: "NOOOOO!!!"

5-Watto: best CGI character ever!

6-Ian as Palpatine: very well done!

7-The FX for Coruscant

8-Maul's "coolness" factor, was even better than Boba!

9-Victory parade wasn't too bad.

10-One Jar Jar line that I really loved: "Steady, steady"

 

I'm a bit of a gusher...so let's hope that I can get through this...

1. Darth Maul's lame death.
2. "Yippee!" Really now...can we hear Vader going: "Yippeeeee!" when Alderaan is blown up? I don't think so...
3. Jar Jar and the fart joke.
4. The whole Gun-gan underwater city...it just slowed the plot I think.
5. For some reason I wanted to see more battledriods on those cool hover-things...sorry I don't know what they're called.
6. Lack of acting from Portman for her role of Padme.
7. "Are you an angel?" Worst pick-up line...
8. Why does the 'Boss' guy shake his head like a dog?
9. Anakin destroyed a whole TRADE FEDERATION BATTLE SHIP without even knowing about it...he may be 9 but I don't think that he's that stupid...
10. Those annoying casters in the pod-race...

That was hard...

1) Liam Neeson. Oh yes.
2) Palpatine and the Senate scene.
3) Captain Tarpals.
4) Watto and Sebulba - great CG characters.
5) The podrace.
6) Coruscant.
7) The Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon/Maul fight. Especially when Maul killed Qui-Gon, as I found that the most moving part of the film.
8) Qui-Gon's funeral scene.
9) Pernilla August's acting.
10) The music, in particular Duel of the Fates was great (apart from when it was heavily edited).

 

Hmmm, here goes, I didn't like:

1) Captain Panaka
2) The Blue Guards, red looks much cooler
3) Kitster's over-acting, "Finish the race of course"
4) Jira? That woman who says theres a storm coming
5) Not enough of the Space Battle at the end
6) Some of the Coruscant scenes are a little to long
7) Not enough Yoda
8) Yoda's puppet looks high
9) Qui-Gon dying
10) I would have liked a musical score for the entire of the Podrace.

2. The fart heard 'round the world.
3. Jar Jar's antics in the final battle.
4. Anakin's nasssty little friends. We hates them, my preciousss!
5. Anakin's comments in the final battle (special dishonor goes to "Now this is podracing!")
6. "Exsqueeeze me!" and "Muy muy, I love you!"
7. Padme and Jar Jar meeting. I don't know, there's something about this scene that doesn't work for me.
8. Boss Nass' odd tics (the clicking thing and the slobbering thing)
9. The Yoda puppet.
10. Ben Quadrinaros. Didn't like the guy, and gotta fill up 10 anyway.

 

I'm a "basher", albeit a moderate one, so here goes...

1)I love all of the action scenes featuring the Jedi. The Trade Federation ship, rescuing the Queen and her entourage on Naboo, etc. And of course, the duel. Most visually exciting duel in the saga.

2)I really enjoy the political angle of the film. I just wish there was more of it.

3)Qui-Gon Jinn. I don't think he's a particularly good Jedi, and I'm sorry he got so much attention instead of Obi-Wan, but aside from those things I think he's a really good character.

4)The shot of the Gungan warriors riding out of the mist. I think this is the most beautiful shot in the movie and a great example of the way CGI should be used.

5)Darth Maul. The fact that nearly everyone ("basher" and "gusher" alike) thought he should have had a larger role just goes to show what a cool character he was.

6)The music. Editing issues aside, John Williams has never disappointed me with a "Star Wars" score.

7)The new locations, such as Coruscant and Theed.

8)The intricate shell game of the Queen and her decoy. One of those things you only appreciate on repeat viewings.

9)I think the coolest thing in the movie happens during the duel. When all three combatants wind up getting separated by the energy gates, you can tell a lot about each of the characters by the way they react. Obi-Wan waits pensively, Maul paces like a caged tiger and Qui-Gon kneels, closes his eyes and meditates. Qui-Gon closing his eyes in the face of a fearsome opponent is one of my favorite moments in any "Star Wars" film. To me it symbolizes the way of the Jedi.

10)When Jar-Jar talks to the Queen on Coruscant about the fate of the Naboo and the Gungans. If Jar-Jar had been portrayed this way throughout the whole film, he'd have been a lot more popular.

I'm a gusher,so here's what I disliked...

1) The toilet humor
2) The line 'Either choice brings great danger...to all of us.' It just sounded weird the way it was said...
3) Cutting the probe droid scene
4) Darth Maul should have had more lines
5) Obi should have had more lines
6) And speaking of those two,I thought it would be cool if they actually spoke to each other during the DOTF...
7) Qui should have said something more personal to Obi when he was dying...(yes,mentioned in every single Obi-post-TPM story that ever was written by anyone...)
8) That thing Boss Mass did with his mouth

9) Some of the names didn't get mentioned till halfway through,or not at all
10) It would have made an awful lot more sense if the Gungans shot at the droids while they were still unfolding,hmm?
