    Neutral. (5 pros/5 cons)

The movie grew on me over the years but it´s just my #5 SW movie to date and has the most profoundly flaws (except ROTJ´s Ewoks).

    5 things I like:

    1.) Villains: Neimoidians, Siths (+ Palpatine/McDiarmid)
    2.) Qui Gon Jin
    3.) Watto & Sebulba (CGI)
    4.) Coruscant (especially Senate)
    5.) Duel of the Fates

    5 things I dislike:

    1.) Boss Nass´ slobber (twice  )
    2.) The fart "joke"
3.) C-3PO built by Anakin :_|& Ani´s "Mr. Know it All" attitude in general
    4.) Kitster
5.) The Space "Battle" - Anakin blowing up the droid control ship accidentally

    +

    "Yipee" (twice  )
    (sorry, couldn´t help myself)

    Oh yeah

    Almost forgot.

    2 more CONS:

    * Why didn´t GL restore the 2nd lap of the Pod Race entirely (flamethrower, tusken raiders shooting at jawas ...) ?

    * too many cartoonish pod racers

    So, that´s it !

    I promise !

    I'm a gusher ->

Let's get the obvious out of the way ->

    1) Eopie fart
    2) Boss Nass and his slober problems
    3) Maul should have had a few more lines and have done at least one more thing contributing to the plot.
    4) Slow to let us know character names. For example, in the crawl, in addition to saying the Chancellor has dispatched two Jedi Knights (even though Qui-Gon is a Master) they should have been named.

    Less obvious ->

    5) Amidala looking like a mime sometimes
    6) When they returned to Naboo, only one Droid ship was in sight. What happened to the blockade? Overconfidence I guess.
    7) I am convinced there is some importance to Naboo. Something unique to it that Palps wants. In addition to Palps using the situation to rise to power, I think there is something else about Naboo. Hopefully this will be revealed in Episode III. Too bad no further motivation was shown though.
    8) Perhaps it would have been better if the whole Anakin takes off in a Naboo battlecruiser and saves the day situation was viewed more as Anakin beginning to be deviant more so than Anakin still innocent and accidentally pressing the wrong buttons. But I'll live. Apparently some of you won't :p.
    9) More insight on the Sith. Maybe seeing more scenes from Sidious' and Mauls' perspectives.
    10) Overall light-heartedness of the movie. A bit too much at times. I understand why Lucas chose to make it light-hearted and I agree. But I also think a few scenes could have been trimed down just a tone. But again, I'll live.

    Things I loved:
    1) Seeing Jedi in action
    2) Qui-Gon
    3) Watto (and his interaction w/ Qui-Gon)
    4) The Podrace, especially Sebulba
    5) Both saber duels. Double-bladed saber!
    6) R2 saving the Queen's ship
    7) Neomodians and their lines "Ah vic-tor-ee"
    8) Otoh Gunga - most beautiful SW locale
    9) "You are a much wiser man than me, Obi-Wan. I forsee you will be a great Jedi Knight someday."
    10) Palps/Sidious and his manipulations

Not my most favorite SW movie, but certainly not a complete fluke either, IMHO.

Okay I really liked TPM so here's my top 10 things i didn't like:

    1. Jar Jar Binks (he had some moments, but overall he was bantha fodder!)
    2. "Yippie"
    3. Darth Maul's lack of dialouge
    4. Boss Nass and his saliva
    5. Yoda's new puppet look
    6. Mace not kickin some ass
    7. The Trade Federation "Asian" accents
    8. The fact that a little boy can fly right into a blockade docking bay and that the main reactor is in the docking bay
    9. "How Wude!" Um, was Jar Jar really a mutated Olsen twin?
    10. That Watto wasn't in it more!

    GUSHER I am ...

    1) Jar Jar's voice. I loved the technical accomplishment but the voice was hideous.
    2) Qui-Gon running from Darth Maul on Tatooine. Seems more like Obi-Wan would have jumped down to help, rather then Qui-Gon fleeing.
    3) Jake Lloyd ... 'nuff said. (this includes 'yippie', 'sandstorms ...', and 'but it's what I've always wanted' lines)
    4) Too dependant on effects, not enough on plot.
    5) Do ships ever receive other damage other than the hyperdrive being damaged?
    6) The pod-race announcers sucked.
    7) All those kid actors shouldn't have had speaking roles.
    8) Jedi abilities inconsistant. Why could Qui-gon and Obi-wan 'dash' away from the Droidekas at the beginning, but then Obi-wan couldn't use that same ability to catch up to Maul and Qui-gon at the end?
    9) The over-all feel of the movie felt like it should have been rated G and named "The Adventures of Anakin Skywalker - Episode I: Yipeee"
    10) Did I mention I hated Jar-Jar's voice?

If I am really nitpicking, I can come up with 3 things that could´ve been better:

    1. Ewan is a little too nice when talking to/about Jar Jar and Anakin

    2. The editing of Duel of the Fates is a little weird sometimes

    3. The smoke coming out of the crashing N-1 starfighter is sinking!

I loved it but here are the things that ain't perfection.

    1) The Podrace - far too long (and the fart joke spoils much)
    2) Darth Maul should have talked more like Vader and Dooku + his duel with Obi Wan should have been longer
    3) Nute Gunray and company could have been better
    4) Qui Gon shouldn't have died - he was too powerful

    O.K.. As a self-proclaimed gusher, I will deal with this :

1 - The fart joke was REALLY out of place.
2 - The neimoidians and the gungans should have used their own language whith sub-titles when they were talking to each-other.
3 - The warrior-cultur of the gungans should have been shown more clearly.
4 - A scene introducing the Dooku/Qui-Gonn relationship would have been nice.
5 - Maybe Lucas could have shown us that jedi can have fun sometimes (he did in AOTC but not really in TPM) by adding one or two jokes.
6 - The gungan battle should have been seen from a higher point of view. Jar Jar's antics were fine with me but I'ld have appreciated to see more of the actual battle.
7 - Give us the longest cut of the light-saber battle with the music as it was edited in first place.
8 - A little more apparent sadness from Obi-wan at his master's funeral would have made him look more human. He lost his father-figure so that's quite a big deal !
9 - Keep in Maul jumping on the queen's ship. The editing at the end of that duel was just weird.
10 - The arrival at Coruscant should have been far more impressive (more like what we got in episode 2).

That's what I think could have been better...

Well, since I am a moderate basher (I only liked about 40% of the movie), I'll do six likes and four dislikes.

    Likes:

    1. The music. I think Williams did a masterful job with the score.

    2. DOTF. I will gladly add myself to the throngs who enjoyed the three-way duel.

    3. The political study. I find it fascinating to see how Palpatine came to power.

    4. The Jedi/padawan relationship. It fleshes out the training alluded to in the OT.

    5. The costumes. With few exceptions (*cough*Tattoine*cough*) I really enjoyed them.

    6. The pyrrhic victory. While the battle was won, it's clear that the war is being lost.

    Dislikes:

    1. Midiclorians. Plot devices that scuttle the mysticism of the Force, IMHO.

    2. Qui-Gon Jinn. He stripped Obi-Wan of necessary characterization and was, in the grand scheme of things, apparently a throw-away character.

    3. The acting. While there were a few good performances, the bulk of them were terrible. Natalie is a skilled actress. Ewan is a skilled actor. Ralph is a skilled actor. You wouldn't know it based on those performances. Jake and Ahmed are not skilled actors.

    4. Jar Jar Binks. He could have been a great character, if he had been toned down a la TPRE. His best scene is the quiet discussion on Coruscant with the Queen. The rest of his performance is more painful to watch than Amateur Improv.

The Phantom Re-Edit. One of the two edited versions of TPM. TPE came out of Los Angeles (the whole Phantom Editor stink) and TPRE out of NY (a whole lot less fanfare, but much better).

    I dislike it so...

    1. The fact it was the first SW film for 16 years (that one was a cop out)
    2. 'Wipe them out, all of them'
    3. Maul getting his saber out in the hanger
    4. Natalie Portman (i'm shallow)
    5. The 40 ish seconds of Obi-Wan versus Maul (i know it's just eye candy but it gives me goosebumps)
    6. The look that Palpatine has when Amidala calls the vote of no confidence in Valorum
    7. The piece of music Duel of the fates
    8. Yareal Poof (he seemed more like an Alien from the OT than anything else)
    9. The fact that Yoda wasn't yet CGI
    10. C-3PO (even though it doesn't make much sense that Vader doesn't remember him)

    Damn that was tough

I think I'm kinda neutral, I like TPM, but i don't love it. So, here goes:

    Liked:
1.Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs. Darth Maul
2.Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul by himself
3.Palpatine, pretty much the best actor in the PT.
    4.Watto, he's funny and a great character
    5.Padme (she's hot)

    Disliked:
    1.Jar Jar
2.Anakin accidently saving the day at the end
    3.Pod race is boring now.
    4.3P0 was made by Anakin
5.Any other scene with Jake Lloyd, he is terrible, but I suppose it's not his fault entirely, GL is also to blame.

I definitely lean more towards gusher status so I'll try to find 10 dilikes.

    1. Jar Jar- could've been great, IMO, if they'd made him have more seriousness to him. Characters who have a funny streak to them are good, characters who hardly have anything else aren't.

    2. Crude humor like fart jokes, "icky icky goo."

    3. Some of Anakin's lines- I don't knw if it's the fault of the writing or the delivery but the things he say drive me nuts.

    4. Darth Maul could have been fleshed out a bit more, maybe given a personality instead of just jumping around and looking cool. (In the TPM PC game he talks more than in the film. Kinda sad.)

    5. Slapstick during final ground battle- this really bugged me. It's such a serious situation, do I really want to see Jar Jar hopping around? C3PO's lines during AOTC battle are just enough silliness to alleviate the tense situation. This part however I generally end up fast forwarding.

    6. Battle droids not threatenig enough. I know they're just stooges, but still, they're about as scary as robotic Snoopies walking around.

    7. Cutting scene of Ani fighting a Rodian kid.

    8. Cutting scene of Sith probe droid on Tatooine.

    9. Hmmmm...... Fact that they made Ani such a perfect little angel. I don't know if this is almost the same as 7 but it would be good if they gave him some bit of a temper, something aside from a Yippeee! to make him seem human.

    10. Fact that they killed off Qui-Gon who is one of my favorite characters. Does this count?

Well, I liked the movie, (although I refuse to use that IMO silly 'G' word,) so here goes:

    10. Not enough Yoda.
    9. "Yippee!"
    8. "Now THIS is podracing!" UGH.
    7. Midichlorians.
    6. Not enough Mace.
    5. Short space battle.
    This is gettin' tough...
    4. Not enough Coruscant locations.
    3. Threepio's origin.
    2. Podrace announcer.
    1. Not enough Yoda. (Can't stress that one enough. :))

    Things I didn't like:

    1. The ages of some of the characters
    2. Eopie shot
    3. Some of the dialouge
    4. Yoda puppet in some shots
    5. The Neimodians having only *one* droid control ship.

That's all I can think of, really, but it's been a while since I've seen the film.

    1)Fart and poopoo jokes.
2)Jar Jar (I like the Gungans, did he have to be that stupid)
    3)Podrace announcer guy.

6)R2D2's intro.....worst part of the film for me
    7)Too little Valorum....he was cool
8)the Gungans not attacking while the battle droids where unfolding themselves.
9)ummm....c3Po....starting to get on my nerves
10)OB1 vs. Darth Maul toooooo short!

wow...that was hard. THIS IS A REALLY COOL THREAD!
