Take The TPM Challenge

I read through this whole dang thread just to find out what Go-mer Tonic disliked but I see he hasn't yet stepped up to the plate.

Anyway, although I post mainly in the basher's sanctuary I am at heart a gusher. I love TPM and AotC. So my dislikes are...

1. Jake Lloyd. So many child actors are better than he is.
2. Darth Maul. Yeah, he "looked" cool but he had no personality. He was very 2-D.
3. Jar Jar. I don't mind the Gungans, I like them actually, but Jar Jar was just plain pandering.
4. The Queen's ship. Um...Since when are SR-71's sci-fi?
5. Tatooine could have been edited much better! It when on and on and on...
6. The space battle. Where the hell did all the other Trade Federation ships go? There were loads of them in the beginning but diring the final battle (a battle they new was coming) there was only one droid control ship. They didn't even give it any escorts! DER!
7. The two headed announcer just seemed out of place. (Although Greg Proops did an exellent job voicing him)
8. Not enough explaination of the slave system. Could have been easily dramatized by showing Shmi hauling a heavy load in the junk yard. Or doing a dangerous repair.
9. Doug Chiang. I hate his stuff.
10. Qui Gon's character. It seems to be unnecessary but this can be justified in the third if, indeed, Q.G. is responsible for the Jedi Ghost trick.

 

Go-Mer only dislikes Darth Maul's horns, saying that they look glued on. It's the only compliant he'll make.

 

I wonder how many are reading this just for his comments?

Things I didn't like:

1. The eopie fart and Jar Jar stepping in poop. These two incidences took up only 3 or so seconds of film time each, rather than permeating the entire movie as critics regularly claim, but still, they're out of place.

2. Darth Maul shouldn't have had any lines at all.

3. "Now this is podracing." And Anakin in the cockpit of the spaceship in general. He was calm and focused during the podrace; he should've been likewise in the spaceship.

4. "I ask you...no I beg you to help us." Blagh.

5. The two-headed podrace announcer.

6. The puppet Yoda. Crummy.

7. Kitster. My absolute least favorite character in any of the movies.

Things I liked:

1. Anakin in general. No, Jake isn't the greatest child actor out there, but he had a lot of enthusiasm, which made up for it.

2. Qui Gon. Great character.

3. Obi Wan's dry humor.

4. The three-way lightsaber duel.

5. Anakin and Padme's first meeting. Such a pivotal moment, played out so undramatically.

6. The dinner conversation.

7. Anakin's Vaderisms.

8. Qui Gon's funeral.

9. Palpy.

10. Shmi.

 

I liked TPM so here's 10 things I didn't like.

1. Jar Jar

6. anakin accidently destroying droid ship
7. cgi
8. natalie in to many clothes

I can't think of any more, TPM rocks!

Neutral. I like:
1-The opening of the film, until they arrive on Naboo.
2-Liam Neeson's portrayal of a Jedi.
3-The editing of the final battles.
4-The way Artoo is introduced.
5-The fish that's eaten by the giant Kracken thing. It looks like an OT puppet.

I don't like:
1-The fact that it picks up with Anakin at such a young age.
2-The colors. Everything seems to have a warm, orange-lit effect. I understand the symbolism but don't like the effect.
3-Jar Jar Binks
4-3PO built by Anakin.
5-The race announcer(s).

 

Semi-quasi basher.

Against:

1. Darth Maul - "bad scary" character with no point.

2. Boss Nass/Gunga City - we had Jar Jar, that was enough 'comedy' and the city sucked - royally.

3. Qui-Gon - how many non-personality characters did we need?!

4. Tatooine - it should have been on a completely different planet with its own species. It made Tat too big and familiar instead of out of the way.

5. Senate scene - GL can't make the senate scenes work. Boring, boring, boring.

6. Battles - blink and you will miss the space one. The magical plasma armies of the Gungans just didn't do it for me. Was it Star Wars or Lord of the Rings?

7. Jake Lloyd - didn't GL watch this kid's pathetic other movies?

2. Trade Federation - battle droids, music, Neimoidians, invasions: loved them all.

3. R2-D2 - introduced beautifully.

 

I liked the movie, so

Things I disliked:

1. The Queens area on her ship. BORING!
2. Just about anything that Anakin said during the space battle.
3. Panaka. Needed to show a little emotion.
4. Anything Jar Jar says. The character isn't that bad, but the voice should have been dropped.
5. The Ground Battle. BORING! (Some nice points though, like the droid racks )
6. BOSS NASS
7. Sio Bibble
8. The Landing Pad scene (after the Senate).
9. The Tatooine sequence, it drags before the Podrace.
10. Jar Jar and the Eopie.

 

I liked TPM so here goes...
1. Everything Anakin said during the space battle
2. The Eiope farting
3. Anakin having no father, a little to "Jesus-like" for me
4. Every time Jar Jar opened his mouth
5. Midichlorians
6. Not enough Samuel L. Jackson!
7. GENERAL Jar Jar, worst military move in history
8. Boss Nass's bub-bub-bub thing
9. Darth Maul died
10. The Queen's decoys, was that seriously supposed to confuse us?

 

Well, I'm kind of neutral, so...

Five Things I Like:

1. Astounding visuals. This movie really pushed the limits of what can be gone in a movie visually.
2. The Jedi Duel. It's one of the best action sequences ever. 'Nuff said.
3. Jar Jar Binks. No, you didn't read that wrong. I like Jar Jar. I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. On a related note, I also love Watto.
4. Design Innovations. So many of the designs in the movie make my jaw drop in awe. Things such as the unfolding destroyer droids and the vast Galatic Senate chamber.
5. The first 20/30 minutes. I know that many people hate this part of the movie, but I love it. It pays homage to those old adventure serials perfectly.

Five Things I Didn't Like:

1. Do these characters even know each other's names? The great comaraderie of the OT is gone. Outside of Anakin/Padme and Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan there don't seem to be any type of relationships between the characters.
2. Jake Lloyd. I hate to pick on this kid, but he just didn't work as Anakin.
3. Flatulence jokes. Stupid.
4. The Yoda puppet. Can someone please tell me why they just couldn't use a replica of the old one?
5. A lack of emotion. Things that should be emotional, such as Anakin leaving his mother, come across as dull and wooden.

 

Basher here

1. Of course, the Duel of the Fates.
2. The podrace was pretty good (in terms of effects, it has no relevance to the story)
3. Darth Maul's ship
4. Theed City looked pretty good.
5. It was better than AOTC.

I can't finish. Sorry, I tried.

 

Hmm, 5 things I dont like about TPM...

1) Anakin's "Yipee", "now THIS is podracing" and "this is tense" ARGH!!
2) The journey through the planet core
3) Jar-Jar generally being an arse
4) The donkey thingy farting
5) Podrace commentators
6) Yoda looked weird
7) Not enough of Darth Maul
8) The trade federation is stupid - why would you have your main power generater in a hanger?
9) The kids on Tatooine, actually, pretty much everyone on Tatooine.
10) The podrace was too long and not good enough.

 

The only things I didn't like were the Eopie fart and "Now this is Podracing!" line.

Oh and Ki Adi Mundi as well. He just plain sucks.

 

Gusher, things I didn't like:

1. Kitster
2. How 3/4 of the Jedi Council had no lines and just sat on their butts.
3. The podrace-while cool, it could have been trimmed a bit.
4. The fart
5. Dumb tactics by the Gungans (if they were warriors, they weren't very smart ones)
6. Slapstick during the battle
7. The force fields, which seemed to have no purpose other than "plot device to separate Obi-Wan and Qui Gon."
8. The way Qui and Obi's relationship was handled, in the sense that it has given rise to all sorts of Qui and Ani hatred by Obi-Wan fans.
9. Anakin's flying the fighter at such a young age and bumbling his way through.
10. "Now THIS is podracing" (as expressed before, umm, no it isn't. LOL.)

But I REALLY hate that term!!!!!

The one thing that I REALLY can't stand, is the line:
"Now THIS is PODRACING!"

Yikes, that is INFINITELY BEYOND AWFUL!!!

Makes my skin crawl, just THINKING about it !!!
