Thanks everyone. The shock is still settling in really. While we don't know what happened to Rory, what happened to Sophie was a tragic accident. Sophie hadn't come back in like she normally does, so my fiance went out looking for her and called her name. She was mostly a well behaved cat, and was playing on the opposite side of the road. When she responded to the sound of her name she tried to cross back over but didn't see the car. My fiance is blaming herself for what happened last night, as much as I try to tell her that there's nothing we could have done.

Whether someone is deliberately targeting cats or not, I can't say. Though from what she described to me the car didn't even attempt to apply the brakes, nor did they stop to see if Sophie was okay. When I last visited her in America I also noticed literally dozens of dead cats along the side of the road, leading me to assume people in the area just don't care.

We still have a small kitten to take care of, his name is Egypt and is nine weeks old, however we're kind of reluctant to let him outside to play now.



Neither of us want anything to happen to this little smile.

 

Sending you big furry hugs (one of ours was lost that way many years ago.) Egypt looks utterly adorable. Wishing all of you a lot of happiness and good times.

What a beautiful new baby! And honestly, it wouldn't be terrible to keep him indoors. There are just so many dangers for outdoor cats and they can live a perfectly happy and long life indoors

 

Keeping cats indoors forever is cruel.

 

Letting cats get killed by other animals, cars or crazy people is even crueler. I'm paranoid about my cat, especially since her previous human (my son's crazy idiot ex gf) was mean enough to have her declawed and leave her defenseless.

 

it could be cruel to keep a cat indoors if it's a really small place or something, but as long as they have some room to roam and a place to sit in the sun indoor cats seem perfectly happy to me.

 

They're God's little explorers! Let them out!

 

When we lived on the farm and they knew how to take care of themselves with a big yard and a barn, yes, but not in town, too many dangers.

 

I know I sound hysterical. But cats are only semi-domesticated. They should be allowed outside with there claws.
