Full Series TCW Grade the Episode: S05E01: Revival

Or a Minus number.

 

I really liked the season opener and thought it was a solid continuation from the Maul storyline from the end of last season; Hondo and his goons were great (probably like him even more than before) and the lightsaber duels were really good (Obi vs. both the brothers was great and possibly the standout part); it will be interesting to see the continuation of the story later on. 9/10

A great premiere. It was as good as Ambush.

 

I gave it a 9, I would have given it a 10 if Hondo had fought one of the brothers using an electro staff like he did with Anakin on Bounty Hunters.

 

Pros:

• Loved the voices of the security droids. Awesome.
• It was cool seeing the shuttle in hyperspace.
• I know some don't care for them, but I like the flying saucers.
• Hondo's "laser sword wielding maniac" line.
• Jedi vs Sith choreography was solid.
• Adi not using a reverse grip.
• Kenobi's microseries Force jump.
• Savage's Predator blood.
• The final scene in Palpatine's office had a mood similar to ROTS.

Cons:

• Maul killing a Jedi in the freakin narrative. Opening seconds of the first episode of the season already had me annoyed.
• Adi's death. Lame.
• Using old Yoda character model with the terrible looking hair.
• Hondo fan service.

If this were a year ago, I would have given this episode a really bad score just because of Maul and Adi, but I'm just moving on. If they don't care, I don't care. That's not a good thing for LFL.

I wasn't quite so amused with Hondo as others seem to be, I thought it came off as transparent fan service.

Its hard to keep track of the models with how the episodes were rearranged.

 

We'd be pretty screwed without the commentary alot of the time.

Are you kidding me? That's even worse, it looks horrible.

And everyone knows I rarely notice these things, so if I notice it.....it's noticeable.

 

That really doesn't look anything like Yoda's hair, it's too solid. Yoda's hair is really thin, but I guess they haven't figured out how to make thinning hair out of clay.

 

I do not like the new model.

 

I personally think the top of the head and face of the new model is a big improvement. Hair is still just one of those things TCW stylizes to much. Hair is one of the most difficult things to animate however.

awesome episode... really loved it. one of the best season opener's ever. obiwan kicked ass, savage and maul were beast too
