Cool, thanks Dan
Hoooray! I got all the stuff for my computer. Here is what I got: ASUS A7A266, AMD 1.33 T-Bird (they were out of the 1.4), nice case, 40GB HD, 256mhz ddr ram,and big fat heatsink and fan for the AMD. All for about $600. A pretty good deal in my opinion. now all I need is a monitor (the 15" i have now is not going to cut it). I ahve been looking at 19" NEC and Viewsonic ones for about $250 (my b-day is comming up and now i know what to ask for). Today I (after work) I will be hooking it up to the network and hit the Internet at cable speed, hmmmmm maybe I'll play a little XWA.
Thanks again to Dan and AA for all the help.
P.S. Holy crap! My old computer is sooo old that i ahve to buy a new keyboard 'cause the old one's plug is too big!
lol about keyboards, you can but a $2 adapter for it.
NEC makes nice monitors in my opinion.. but some people disagree with me =/
Thanks AA. I have to go to compusa to get a dinky vid card for the old computer so I'll probibly just pick up a new keyboard while I'm their. The old one has had it anyways.
Have fun =)
big comp stores evil... scary.
Yeah I know but it's on the way home.
Looking good. Not sure about the motherboard though. I've heard the chipset is unreliable... but I have the same one and have zero problems. So it shouldn't be a problem. And I don't know much about monitors, sorry.
I just did it (as I'm sure you can tell from abave) and it's really not too hard. I can give a bit of advice and I'm sure AlienAcid and et.al. can hook you up with some solid tips. What windows will you be running?
you must really want speed
have you read the MB manual for setting up its raid?
should go with win2k
Aren't there controls on your monitor?
See what a good influence AA was on all of us? Who else has set up their own help desk?
What happens when you don't use thermal compound between your CPU and Heatsink?
do you really wanna know
the real question is what happens when you use to much
tape is good, but a thermal paste applied properly is better, IF you put it on right.
AA, Get on ICQ you Foo so I can tell you what I ordered last night.
My computar has been thermal paste free for a year now without going above 50C. Foo.
damn thats high
mine goes to 40 max
Anything below 60 is safe... I'm not risking ruining my computer for something I don't need. Last time I did, I fuxored my motherboard.
If it ain't broke...
should of done it the first time...
Dude... the first time I put my heatsink on... lol, it's too embarassing. I was an idiot. I'll just say it was a DAMN GOOD THING I didn't put it on the first time.
I think i have it in a icq chat what you did.
You haven't formatted since then? I format every other day it seems.
//trying to change subject
everything important(LIKE THAT)gets backed up.
I wish I had saved my ICQ logs all this time. Didn't even know you could.
use that goop dan, it rules.
