[TECH] Question about Username transfer stuff.

How did everything that used to be here all of a sudden get here?

I thought this was impossible? At least that's what we were always told.

 

The easiest answer would be he made a new account, and in the database they transferred all of the information from the old one, leaving that one empty.

Thats probably what they did.

 

I'm pretty sure RMC is the same account that it always was, based on the UID numbers. However, what's odd is that RMCOY appears to be a new username (which it obviously isn't).

 

Woah...I feel we have the same situation that we did with Gandolf/Gandalf the Raven. Maybe zerosleep did something. I could be wrong.

So who did this, and why? This is rather Pandoric, I hope this wasn't just done as a friendly favor.

 

The answer is full and thus:

No information was transferred. RMCOY's name was changed to RMC (abbreviations mind you). Then the RMCOY username was reregistered (by whom I didn't look).

Ok, so why was it changed, and who did it?

 

From what I understand, zerosleep did it, after a request approximately 2 years ago. A few other misc. specific bugs were cleared up at the same time.

The issue was brought up in Mod Squad, but discussion is ongoing from what I understand. Really, the situation is entirly out of our control.

So I assume anyone is entitled to the same favors from zerosleep then, were they to request it.

We can't control who or what zerosleep does. It's entirly up to him. I'm sure flooding him with requests isn't going to get on his good side or on his wait list though (and mind you that this request was made how long ago?).

Zerosleep does not have to do any of these. Feel free to ask but if it's been two years and your request still is not completed, don't be mad.

 

zerosleep should be informed that changing usernames without a valid reason is a no-no over here though.

So basically, the request was made of zerosleep, and zerosleep, being the super high headguy made the change, and the mods had nothing to do with it?

So starting up a crazy drama-filled thread about how it's not fair and asking how to make requests isn't going to do anything becasue the mods have no control over it?

and since zerosleep rarely visits the boards, and when he does visit he even less rarely visits comms, and he never gets involved in internet!drama, he's probably not going to get involved in any drama that might crop up here, so there's no real point in stiring some up?

Well we don't really tell him what to do. He does what he wants or what IGN wants him to do. I really don't see the point in getting all up in arms about this.

Yeah, while I got my current name thru that, it sucks how some users got to keep the older accounts, while some had to re-register it once the mods deleted the older account.

 

So he will do it for all it will just take him 2 years?

No, but if you want an old username with a 98-99 reg date, knowing an admin helps.

 

did an admin giving a user a 98 reg date happen before ?
