This is something that's bothered me ever since I first saw AOTC.

In AOTC, Padmé mentions that the King or Queen of Naboo could only rule for two terms. BUT in the Episode 1 Visual Dictionary, it states that King Veruna ruled for 13 years. What's up with that?

Well, considering there are no contradictions within the EU, there is an explanation. ;)

King Veruna was a corrupt leader, and was using the prosperity of the planet to fill his own coffers. His manipulation around the rule of only serving two terms led to suspicions of the Naboo people, which eventually contributed to his downfall and the election of Padme in his wake.

Cloak of Deception helps clarify this, so I suggest you pick it up if you would like to learn more. ;) :)

Ken Kenobi- And you have a nice day ;)

Franklin Roosevelt had started his 4 term of presidency when he died, so if he can do it, why couldn't Veruna?

I thought that 2 terms thing was implemented after Roosevelt's time.

But, yes, Veruna was a corrupt ruler. I suppose he'd have found a way around it. :)

Well, I personally believe that Naboo isn't as democratic and nice as we are fooled to think, so it doesn't come as a surprise if you could stay for a longer period.

oh, and I think the idea of having terms for royalties is silly.
