It's horrendous here in Austria because people don't actually pay attention lyrics at all. At least they have that excuse, not sure how the people we've mentioned can be popular in the English-speaking world.

"You gonna need a ladder just to climb my penis." Damn, I should use that line.

Na na na na. Na na na na. Hey hey hey. Goodbye.

At least the song was catchy though.

Any recent song by Train. The phrase 'untrimmed chest' in one of the lyrics drives me up a tree.

Juliet, I can't stand that specific line either. I don't know what it is about it.

I love Kelly Clarkson's voice, but another one of her songs, namely "Einstein" has the most annoying lyrics.
"And I may not be Einstein, but I know dumb plus dumb equals you."

Rihanna continuously annoys me with her lyrics.
Diamonds is basically her repeating "We're like diamonds in the sky" or a variation of that after every verse, and then for the entire chorus. She has 2 verses in the song, and the rest is repetition.
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond

Find light in the beautiful sea
    I choose to be happy
You and I, you and I
We’re like diamonds in the sky

    You’re a shooting star I see
    A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I’m alive
We’re like diamonds in the sky

I knew that we’d become one right away
    Oh, right away
At first sight I left the energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes

So shine bright, tonight you and I
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky
    Eye to eye, so alive
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shining bright like a diamond
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shining bright like a diamond
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Palms rise to the universe
    As we moonshine and molly
Feel the warmth, we’ll never die
We’re like diamonds in the sky

    You’re a shooting star I see
    A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I’m alive
We’re like diamonds in the sky

At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes

So shine bright, tonight you and I
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky
    Eye to eye, so alive
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shining bright like a diamond
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shining bright like a diamond
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond

So shine bright, tonight you and I
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky
    Eye to eye, so alive
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond
    Shine bright like a diamond

This is a song called "US Boy". It is a French song, but here is a translation. I maybe kind of like it, but it is ridiculous. About how French girls like "US boys".

They are the dream boy of french girls,
We want an american boys friends for ever.
US boy, U US boy, Us love, U US love.
One baby and I touch the happiness,
I want my american boy friend for ever.
US boy, U US boy, Us love, U US love.
His accent makes me crazy, I like to listen to talk
For all girls, it is the idol,
    The most beautiful neighborhood
To seduce, I give French lessons, even if this ideal exists only in my thoughts.
(it) a hint of charm Aston Kutcher (he) madness Barney in How I Met Your Mother.
(he) The romantic side of Edward in Twilight
(he) Eminem's talent and the voice of Brian McKnight.

Kind of like a French version of "You Belong With Me", only she gets with the emo dude instead of the sports star.

Lyrics tend to be the weakest point of many songs.

I think my biggest gripe right now is what I call "frat rock". It's what most 17-25 year old males listen to, with heavy guitars and drums, and a singer that mostly growls. Lyrics are either degrading to women, talking about sex, or dark and angry to the point of it being a gimmick.

I'm sorry, but if you want to write an angry song, playing a heavily distorted guitar and yelling about how you hate everything about someone is incredibly cliched and unimaginative. Write something more subtly vitriolic like Like a Rolling Stone. Although I understand that telling people to write Bob Dylan songs is a little unrealistic :p

You should listen to electro-industrial and aggrotech. The lyrics aren't awful and there is no rest when you're living by the bassline.

I dunno... If I am angry enough to take the effort to commit my feelings to song, I think I am angry enough that I kinda wanna yell about it while doing it. :p Somehow I think subtle poetic lyrics expressing my anger may not be as cathartic as I want them to be while in a creative fit of rage. I think the more poetic material comes from people are just simply more poetic. And I guess I'm not one of them.

One may be more artistically fulfilling than the other, but I know which one will make me feel better at the end of the day. ;)

This also expains why "summer hits" going back to the Macarena and Dragostea din tei and more recently "nosa nosa" are so wildly popular here. I barely even want to turn on the radio come summer.

Well, I need to temper my statement somewhat... There's nothing wrong with an overtly angry song, it just helps to have at least some creativity, something that differentiates it andmakes it less cliche.

There's also a world of difference between a song you write simply to feel better, and a song you write to put out there as a product. Ive written many songs that will never see the light of day because they were solely for me, and at the end of the day weren't good enough to share.

The flip side of the whole thing is that a self indulgent look-at-me-I'm-poetic song irritates me a lot more than an overly simplistic one. It's like people who role play in epic poem form. Shut up and get over yourself. I actually put a lot of value in a lyrically simple piece of music, as long as its good.
