Gunman had links to Anders Breivik.

EDIT: Reading some other sources it seems the gunman was bullied in school and developed an unhealthy obsession with mass shootings.

I wonder if people will care that this is the result of a vulnerable young man slipping into a very dark place or whether they're still going to blame Islam.

He was of Iranian descent. People are going to 100% blame Islam. [face_sigh]

Seems like nearly every one of these attacks has been the result of a vulnerable young man slipping into a very dark place. I'm not sure I know how to tell the difference.

It seems some are actually depressed about this terrorist attack not being carried out by a Muslim. Oh humanity...

So you have people on the right who wanted the shooter to be Muslim...

...And you have people on the left who wanted the shooter to be white.

Why are these people so obsessed with slapping labels on these shooters before any facts come out? Whether it be people wanting the shooter to be Muslim so they can pull the "Muslim=Terrorist" card or people wanting the shooter to be white so they can pull the "White=Racist" card.

Those who are so fixated on labeling the shooters before any confirmation on the shooters' backgrounds emerge disgust me. The people who do this crap don't care about the victims at all. They only pay attention to these shootings in order to advance their political agenda.

Having debates about gun control, mental health, how to stop ISIS and other terror groups, etc is fine. It is those who want the shooter(s) to have a certain characteristic (religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, whatever) who sicken me.

RIP to the victims in Munich.

Regardless of motive, how was a mentally disturbed man like this allowed to have access to guns?

Germany's gun laws are super strict. He had to have obtained it from the black market somehow.

    Thanks, mom.

Also, I'm American so I'm supposed to use the improper verbiage.

1 woman killed and 2 injured in machete attack in Reutlingen, Germany. Police said the suspected attacker is a 21-year-old Syrian asylum-seeker who was previously known to law enforcement. Great, that's going to help things...

Yup. The World Wars couldn't do it, but a few disaffected and/or mentally ill teenagers sure can.

a few disaffected people are engaging in anti-social acts and because of literally no other reason than skin colour and I assume it's geographic proximity to France people are conflating the attack in Nice, and last year in Paris at the Bataclan and other venues, with this?

This kid is not the first deranged person to go on a killing rampage in Germany. There have been numerous incidents like this throughout Europe over the years, because Europe has lots and lots of people in it and some of those people are mad and deranged and go psycho. The main difference between deranged killers in Europe and elsewhere and deranged killers in America is that the deranged killers in America are not labelled according what religion they may or may not subscribe to. You don't hear, Adam Lanza, a Catholic boy, went crazy and shot lots of children. But somebody in Europe with brown skin will be identified by his/her religious identification regardless of the reasons behind the rampage.

If you know much about the 1970s, you know how common airplane hijackings and bombings were in that decade. In 1975, there was a major bombing at LaGuardia. I've seen no references whatsoever to that day outside of Rick Perlstein's most recent book. It would be a massive story today, but between how common those were at the time, and the passage of time, it's virtually forgotten.

This is mostly to say that as bad as things are now, we've seen comparable or worse, and it's just media coverage that makes it seem lopsided.
