We had elections tonight, and the winner (by a short majority), Pauline Marois, was attacked by a gunmen/terrorist during her winning speech. The said gunmen apparently used also an incendiary device. Two persons are in critical condition. EDIT : One is apparently dead. (As we tend to do things in a peculiar way in Canada, the mad gunmen was singulary inept, as he committed his assault without pants.)
Gun Violence in America: The horror! The horror! Gun Violence in Canada: Oh, those crazy kanucks.....
Damn, it would suck if we had to bring the Shooting of the Week thread to the permaboards. Can't we just take a week off from killing each other?! It's fine - Candians have healing factors, much like Wolverine. ... Right?
I never would've guessed that a gunman wearing a bathrobe who shouted a racial supremacy remark before opening fire at a political rally was mentally unhinged.
Well, the bathrobe point is really the key thing here. I guess he wanted to be a sans-culotte, but did not read the whole chapter.
I have a feeling it draws back to Quebec wanting to separate. Problem is it makes no sense for Quebec to separate. How does a province caught between Ontario and New Brunswick plan to separate is beyond me. Quebec has been apart of Canada from the beginning. So... I don't know... Pauline Marois is all about separating Quebec.. Some crazy people believe in getting rid of the problem instead of trying to work it out peacefully.
Separatist is really dead in the water in Quebec. Hard numbers Federalist parties at the Assembly CAQ -19 seats out of 125 -27.1% of the vote PLQ -50 seats out of 125 -31.2% of the vote 69 seats ouf of 125, 58.3 of the vote. Separatists QS -2 seats ouf of 125 -6% of the vote PQ -54 seats ouf of 125 -31.7% of the vote 56 seats ouf of 125, 37.7% of the vote. And this is with a widely impopular Liberal prime minister, who had took power nine years ago.
