Hello! I like maps. Here are some: Map of US NFL Fans 2008 Polish Electoral Results Superimposed on Map of 1914 Boundaries Predominant Hair & Eye Colour in France by Region Location of TV Transmissions in Outer Space
Incredible. It appears that the majority of fans for a particular team tend to be located within close proximity to the cities that they play in!
Very odd, considering how ethnic Germans were largely expelled from those areas. I am curious as to what the explanation is for it. Just a coincidence (maybe western Poland is different from the east in some other way)? Does it make any sense at all?
Why you little... I am always interested by the NYC team results though (since it has multiple teams in the major sports); there usually seems to be a divide between the Long Island suburbs and the Upstate / Northern NJ suburbs.
I haven't waded through the comments, but you can see the discussion here on the original blog posting.
It's a fairly accurate representation of the divide, though I'm surprised the Jets even touch parts of Connecticut -Giants used to play in the Yale Bowl. Sad part is you'll see the Jets grip on Long Island loosen year after year thanks to their complete relocation -even practice facilities- to Jersey. By that same token you might see an uptick in Northern Jersey.
I believe that the likelihood of there being an intelligible television signal is pretty much non existent at the range you're talking about in that final map.
I was actually about to post and say that now that the Cosby Show is about to reach Vega, they will know that there is civilization on this planet and that it's time to send back a transmission.
Big fan of Maps. I Really like antique maps done by John Tallis. The drawings on them are pretty cool.
Not surprising to see that the Raiders still hold a lot of the attention of football fans here in La La Land. 2008-2009 L.A. Lakers: World Champions!
On the extremely small chance that "someone" is 1) out there and 2) listening in and 3) knows how to interpret television signals (which is a lot more difficult than radio, IIRC)? We might, but those damned companies only want to serve Terrans. Damn fascist-racist commies.
Er, there are still satellites even if conventional over-the-air broadcasts go away (but it doesn't look like that'll happen soon).
