I loved Night Watch the most, but my favorite of the older ones is Eric. A pubescent boy in charge of the world...

Eric is still on the list of ones I haven't read - sounds interesting though . . . [face_thinking]

who else could accidently find a whole army?

Who indeed? And where else could you find a character whose solution to being trapped in a mudhole with sizzling magic armour is to do a charade of "Oh****oh****oh****I'mgoingtodie"?

I love charades, so that was a high point. :D

I love it when Rincewind just destroyed a bunch of bandits because they tried to steal his hat and his only reason why is: "It was my hat!"

LOL! But a hat is very important to a wizard, it defines them. Especially when it has "Wizzard" written on it.

    ROFL!

Anybody except me bought 'Where's my cow'? [face_blush]
Got a book-voucher fo x-mas, perfect opportunity to buy a horribly expensive and rather useless book. (Which nevertheless ist great :D *millenium hand and shrimp*)

btw, does 'millenium hand' have any meaning at all (I'm no native speaker...) Just it turned up in a Jonny book, too and I startted to wonder...

As far as I know, "millennium hand and shrimp" means precisely zilch. It's just one of Pratchett's signature phrases.

Okay, "Millennium hand and shrimp" bedeutet nichts. :p (Apologies if my German's off, I don't learn it.)

has anyone read The Wee Free Men?? The Nac Mac Feebles are quite funny.

No, but they're in Carpe Jugulum and they're hilarious. I especially like their insane legal documents - "A race six inches high can write very small print".

    Big job!

They remind me of really violent smurfs.

Stereotype, but in a wild and crazy way. Pratchett's student wizards are basically magic geeks, his young vampires are sort of inverse-goths (staying up till gone noon, wearing brightly coloured clothes and calling yourself Tracy) and the barbarian heroes are mostly geriatric (go Genghiz Cohen! :D ). Pratchett includes every fantasy ingredient there is, but somehow they don't come out the same the other end.

I think the Ankh-Morpork one. In theory it could equally have been Disembowel-Meself-Honourably Dibhala, Cut-Me-Own-Hand-Off Dhblah, May-I-Never-Achieve-Enlightenment Dhiblang, Swallow-Me-Own-Blowdart Dlang-Dlang, May-I-Be-Kicked-In-My-Own-Icehole Dibooki, Al-Jibla, or Dib Diblossonsson. :p
