I know there are some other causual runners in the group. We don't bring it up often but Jammies has said he uses the treadmill at the gym and Zannah has mentioned it before. I like to run (okay...jog) a couple of 5Ks each Summer as does Mrs. jedimika. Just throwing it out there to see if anyone might be interested in doing some of the area runs as a group or team. There are a lot of event/adventure runs coming to Louisville lately...zombie runs, beer runs, color runs, glow runs, and of course there are the old fashioned run runs. Let me stress I'm not a serious runner, a 10 minute mile is my average and I'm always in the lower third of my age bracket, so if no one is game for this it doesn't hurt my feelings. I just thought I might see if anyone else had thought they might like to do this.

Wish I could, but alas, I will never be able to run again. Thinking of buying a bicycle tough....

Wolf, I've heard good things about cycling for staying in shape.

Jammies, 8K is awesome! Most I've done is a 4-miler. Does Ms Jammies run?

No I didn't see the story of the 5 yr old that finished the triple crown. Don't need to, I see enough kids passing me on my runs as it is. That and the people pushing baby strollers. Always depresses me :)

Sounds good to me... "real" good. Excellent idea boss!!

And I ... "jog". At almost 60 years old that's all I can muster up. So Mika, we'll all just trot along nicely. [face_batting] Appo on the other hand who's been in the military all of his life, is in the shape of a Clone Trooper. He'll more than likely meet us at the finish line with some water. LOL!!

Cool, I propose we keep it casual for now. If there's a run you see you'd like to do throw it up here to the group and we can do planning for it or whatever.
There's a partial list of area road races here...
    http://www.pacersandracers.com/racecalendar.htm

There's a new series of races for charity (hospice) here http://www.lunar5k.com/ I'm kind of interested in this since it benefits a local charity and isn't one of those businesses that bring their touring event runs to town.

The next run Mrs jedimika and I are planning on doing is the "Throo the Zoo" 5K on May 11. We preregistered for this because it usually fills up. We try to do this one every year. It's a fun run. Most of the run is in the neighborhood around the zoo but it finishes "throo the zoo". We don't usually preregister for a race because when weather/injuries/ the blahs oppose us we'll usually drop out of the race and that way we're not out any money. Like I keep saying we're casual. But if we drop out of the zoo run it's all good because the zoo gets the money.

When you see Mrs jedimika next pat her on the back for doing the Derby mini yesterday. 13.1 miles...whew! She really showed me up, I have a tough time squeezing out 3 miles.

    Okay...fly...er..run casual gang.

No worries, I gave her her 13.1 sticker the morning of the race. The clerk at the running store thought I was husband of the year or something.

Early weather report for Saturday's Throo the Zoo is rain. If it's raining the wife and I will probably bail.

Racers and Paces is the best store for runners, walkers, or anyone that wears shoes!

Boss, you want to throw out some 5k races and see if any of us can make em?
It would be cool if we all ran as a group with LGA Club shirts.

I've heard good things about Swags on this side of the river but yeah, I like Racers and Pacers. It's worth the drive across the bridge for me.

Yeah I'll throw some races out but feel free to put some up too if it looks interesting.

Ended up running the Throo the Zoo after all. I did it in 31:35 so right at a 10 minute mile for me. It will probably be my best time all Summer though, conditions were ideal for me...cloudy at 55 degrees. I do poorly in warm weather because my Germanic blood gets me overheated around mile 2 for most road races and I have to end up walking a lot of the finishes.

Okay Jammies, here's what's on my race schedule for the next month or so.

Saturday June 22 I'm planning on doing the Lunar 5K in Etown. It's a 8PM start time and it benefits Hospice. http://www.lunar5k.com/elizabethtown/
If someone wanted to carpool I could get 2 more people in my vehicle (assuming Mrs jedimika wants to run this with me)

However there is an (expensive and fun?) alternative the same night. "The Waterfront Challenge" here in Louisville. Part 5K part obstacle course. Registration is close to $70 though http://www.thewaterfrontchallenge.com/

Next up I have to work on this weekend but if I work second shift I'm gonna run the Johnny 5K in the morning on Saturday June 29 http://www.johnny5k.org/ This one is very low key and relaxed and starts at the Falls of the Ohio and runs along the river.

Then on July 4th I know I'll have off work so I'm planning on the Heroes 5K also down in Etown. http://www.active.com/running/elizabethtown-ky/usa-cares-heroes-run-2013
(note they also offer a 10K for any die hards)

    They all sound fun!
70 bucks is a lot to be running into muddy bouncy pits. I am up for whatever the rest of us want to do. It would be cool for a bunch of us to run in LGA shirts.
Personally I am leaning toward the Johnny 5k-- it's local, cheep, and for a good cause.

Mrs jedimika and I ran the Superman 4mile road race this weekend in Metropolis. Race time temp was 81 which is cool for this race. I ran slow and steady and finished in an unofficial 40:52 a personal best for this race for me. The wife made it just under 45 minutes.

Next tentative race is the Lunar 5K on June 22 if Wolf doesn't organize an Xwing game for that weekend. After that I have to work the morning of the Johnny 5K so that's out. Then I'm still looking at the Buffalo 5K on July 4 if anyone wants to join me. Be warned I like to be at the race site with plently of time to relax and be in the right mind frame before running so I'll be heading out very early.

Think I'm gonna skip the Lunar 5K this weekend unless someone else is interested. My running partner (Mrs jedimika) has been drafted to work Saturday night.

Still planning on the 4th of July run (weather permitting)

If-fy on the 4th run now. I have a lot planned for this weekend and it would be nice to have at least one morning to sleep in. Plus trying to find my way around the back roads of Frankfort looking for this place doesn't appeal to me.
    We'll see.

Okay, next race on my scanner is a Toys For Tots 5K Poker Run. Tuesday August 13 at 6:30PM. The admission fee is the cheapest you'll find...one new toy, and I think we all have a MIB Star Wars toy sitting around somewhere. It doesn't look like you get a Tshirt but you do get playing cards along the race course and best poker hands get prizes (of course I don't know a good poker hand from a bad one). It's during the week and in the evening so it might be hard to get to and if it's still 90 degrees at 6:30P like it has been there's no way for me. Anyone else interested?

Yeah my work schedule was bad this last week and I didn't get any miles in but I don't know that it would do much good with those Iroqouis hills anyway from what I hear. I think I'm still gonna try this. I'd like to run one in Iroqouis Park just to see what it's like. I'll just go in with low expectations. I'll bail if it's raining though. Yeah kids need toys but there are always plenty of drop off around the area closer to November.
