TF.N Boards Moving

For those that haven't seen the news yet, the JC/FF will be moving to a new message board system in the near future.

The short answser to the Why? question is that IGN is charging too much to run them.

DarthJurist posted this in the CR forums, there is also a survey going concerning the move. If you fill out the survey and post it here I'd appreciate it. I'll make sure to pass your opinions on the CR boards.


1) What existing features here are most important to you?

2) What new features would you most like to see?

3) What existing features here are least important to you?

4) What features that we don?t have that are common on some other boards do you feel are unimportant?

5) Are there any particular message board systems that you really like? What do you like about them?

6) Are there any forums that you think should be preserved as 100% intact, and should not be pruned at all?

7) Are there any changes to our interface that you would like to see? Is there anything about our interface that you think must be kept as is?

8) Is there anything else that you feel is important and should be taken into consideration with this move?

Apparently due to the cost of the IGN boards the powers that be have decided to find a new server (?) to host the posting boards. Does that help?

 

So we will not be theforce.net anymore?

 

It will continue to be TheForce.net, and FanForce.net. All the web addresses should remain the same.

What will change is the physical location of the servers (the information), and the software that is used. At the moment we use snowboards, but IGN owns the code for snowboards, and wants to charge Philip (the owner of TF.N/FF) a lot of money to continue to use snowboards.

So, in the next few months Philip will purchase new message board software, we'll test it out, and then everyone will be moved over to the new system.
