ST TFA Continuity Errors

This is *obviously* a nit-picky thread about a fantasy story made by an army of crew who are not perfect. Stipulated! Let's not belabor that point. Let's get right to the nit-picking!!!

I just saw TFA for the 7th time again last night and even by the 2nd screening I saw two obvious continuity errors. Last night I saw a third.

First: BB8's antenna.
When Rey says, "Your antenna's bent." she removes and fixes a thin black arial. At the end of that scene after she's put it back on, it's thick and white. Last night I took notice of BB8's antenna and it seems like there is at least 3. The thick white one, the thin black one and the one that Rey removes which has a different base than the other thin black one. BB8 is not entirely CGI, there is an article somewhere that they had several physical BB8s on set.

Second: Finn's burnt pants.
When Rey knocks Finn down on Jakku, BB8 rolls up and shocks him. In some shots while he's on the ground we can see a light brown burn mark where the shock hits him, and in others it's not there. I don't recall seeing a burn mark anywhere else.

Third: Millenium Falcon's guns
When the gun emplacement that Finn is operating is hit and gets stuck it is pointing straight down. last night I noticed one shot where the gun was not pointing in that direction.

Who's got some more?

 

About the gun thing although I have no problem with it and it made a wonderful scene I always wondered when Finn gut his Falcon gun broke why not just go up stairs and use that gun? I mean there are two guns in Falcon?

 

Not even sure if this is one...but after The First Order blow up those 5 or so planets from Starkiller Base, Kylo Ren and crew are their watching aren't they? Then we see Rey (in the forest) Finn,Han etc watching from Takodana - then boom 5 seconds later Kylo Ren is arriving at their location! Am I missing something??

 

Rey and Finn jump from scenes switching with the jacket on SKB, but apparently there was a scene shot or at least storyboarded where they were on a speeder chase and switch the jacket at some point.

 

I wouldn't call that a continuity error...

 

Yeah, that happened really fast. But I accept it simply because that shot with the SKB ray going across the bridge is one of the best.

 

I wonder why Rey told him to go to the lower gun when the upper gun had a much better firing position.

 

Oh, yeah. I only noticed that last night. At one point I realized, "Wait, Rey is wearing the jacket now?" But yeah, the speeder chase was cut.

Another part cut was Unkarr Plott (or whatever) shows up at Maz's right after Finn walks out the door. We cut to Rey hearing the child's scream and behind her the cantina extras are milling about looking screen left, because tha part cut out was Chewbacca pulling one of his arms off...

 

Will we ever see Chewie rip an arm off? Please? Someone?

 

Hopefully there's be deleted scenes! It was shot...

 

Please please! That would make me so happy.

 

Kylo Ren took off his helmet when he interrogated Rey, leaving it in it's litter tray.

He goes to talk to Snoke with the helmet off, and then returns to Rey wearing the helmet. That he left in Rey's torture chamber.

 

Hmmm, I guess a lot of these continuity errors will be mentioned under "Goofs" in the TFA page in IMDB...

There are some VERY observant people here. I've watched it 4 times and didn't notice any of these things. I'm pretty oblivious though

What bothers me is the scene in which Finn and Poe first meet and are discussing the escape plan before they obtain the TIE fighter. Finn goes from sweating a lot to not sweating in different shots. This indicates that the scene was filmed twice. It had such an impact on me that imagined that Finn's stormtrooper suit was sweating when he was escorting Poe through the hanger and saying, "Stay calm." Lol. I still laugh at the notion that he was so nervous that he was sweating through his own suit!

 

True, but Rey is whipping the Falcon around. BB-8 was thrown all over the place and had to cable himself secure. Maybe climbing the ladder wouldn't have been practical?

 

Is that technically a continuity error? Or just expedient story. I mentally check off that each gun unit has a minimum start up / boot up time and Finn did an intuitive back of the napkin in his head. He could 1) go without consultation to the other turret and incur the risk of startup time, or worse 2) report that he could no longer fire effectively by same the gun was jammed. Now, how Rey knew exactly what angle or configuration the gun was stuck in so as to execute a flip that perfectly brought the gun to the target, we'll let the Force decide. So Finn made the least risk choice (2) and Rey by whatever Force magic knew unerringly precisely what to do about it. Maybe she has a readout on turret positions and could figure out the geometry.

 

One thing I noticed when watching TFA for the thrid time last Sunday was that after Finn hits that last TIE fighter, and the Falcon heads off into space, the gun that was stuck pointing straight out is suddenly not stuck anymore and is sitting in its normal position.

 

We don't see Kylo leaving the torture room to talk to Snoke, so he could have taken his helmet to his room, and before going back to check Rey he put it on again.
I would find weird if he didn't take it back before leaving the room.

 

If those are all the continuity errors that are in the movie I have to give big props to the makers behind The Force Awakens.

Usually a movie this big have dozens of errors, so it's a testament of how much effort and love they put into making this film.

 

the main one that sticks out to me is kylo with and without his cloak after speaking to snoke.

 

We see him holding his helmet while talking to Snoke, so no, this isn't a continuity error.

 

Finn says he has no weapon when he was clearly shown with one.

Rey suddenly becomes a lefty in one shot while she is sneaking in SKB

Chewbacca's Bowcaster stops launching people after he shoots Ren.

 

Finn getting the rifle from Han, and carrying it from the smuggler ship, down to Maz's basement where Maz gives him the lightsaber. When he comes out during the FO battle, he no longer has it.
