They look so badass I would have thought it'd be consistent with the previous movies though, looks very different in comparison. Still looks cool.

Nothing done by Drew Struzan is just "alright."

I like the individual parts of the poster, but you've got two sabers and a staff all perfectly parallel to each other. Gives it an odd rigidity.

Also Han looks like he needs to poop.

 

It's different, but there are some elements that give callbacks to the previous posters, the art style being the most prominent. Really, this is such an improvement over the lame Star Trek type posters I was afraid we were going to get.

 

Part of me wanted Drew Struzan to be recruited for this movie but I never thought it would actually happen. I'm hoping they got him to do the theatrical poster as well.

 

I would bet money on him doing the theatrical poster. It'd be bizarre for him to only do one for a fan convention.

 

Yeah, I kinda doubt that it's the official theatrical one, but I still like it. Interesting that Finn has a lightsaber and that Han is so prominent. The bottom right looks like the carbonite freeze room, too.

 

I like it, but I was hoping that it would reveal more.

 

Drew has done plenty of posters that were just "alright"

His posters for the prequels and Crystal Skull weren't that great really, and the one for Sith was actually kinda bad.

I love a lot of his posters but he hasn't done anything really great in a long time.

EDIT: I like this one. As an exclusive. If it was the final theatrical one-sheet I would be dissapointed.

 

For our first (of two) Drew Struzans this year... after many many years of hiatus, I am grateful.

 

I love Han but I feel like he's shoehorned in that poster.

 

One thing this poster does is establish Finn as force sensitive. I doubt they'd even tease the idea in marketing if it weren't going to play it out the in rest of the saga.

 

Pretty basic, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like the dark/light symmetry and the simplicity of the X-Wing/Tie Fighters flanking the characters. The moisture vaporator, though, is a little too "See? It's Star Wars! You know what this is, right??" and Han does look a little weird.

I'm guessing this isn't the actual "floating head" theatrical poster, right?

 

Agree. I think it looking like PT with two Jedi as the focus.

 

I disagree. I thought those were one well done (and I thought the Revenge of the Sith one was the best). I guess it's a matter of taste, really.

 

is this the "official" poster? i hope not.

 

This leads me to think this poster is really a cutout from a much larger theatrical poster in which elements like the vaporator make more sense.

 

Love it. So happy to see Struzan again. He's one of the first artists, who I really knew of working in a field...and let me know you could have a career doing art.

Can't wait to see if there's a theatrical poster coming too. I think the theatrical ones wouldn't have the Date plastered on it, and the Logo would be done by Struzan w the cast names below it.

Love all their expressions, especially Rey's. So determined.
