"Well East coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the Southern girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when I'm down there

The Mid-West farmer's daughters really make you feel alright
And the Northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be California
I wish they all could be California
I wish they all could be California girls

The West coast has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
I dig a french bikini on Hawaii island
Dolls by a palm tree in the sand

I been all around this great big world
And I seen all kinds of girls
Yeah, but I couldn't wait to get back in the states
Back to the cutest girls in the world

I wish they all could be California
I wish they all could be California
I wish they all could be California girls

I wish they all could be California
(Girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be California
(Girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be California
(Girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be California
(Girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)"

    Mmmmm girls...

But besides girls, California also has:

    1. Selfish egomanics who have no reguard for others (more so than anywhere)
    2. The worst traffic pretty much anywhere
    3. O.J.
    4. That's not a ride at Disney you feel, that's the whole damn state sliding violently back and forth on the continental shelf
    5. Smog
    6. Compton (Mommy, why does that car keep driving by the apartment really slow?)
    7. Luke Perry and Eric Roberts
    8. Producers

    :D

not entirely true; ever been to aspen?

    2. The worst traffic pretty much anywhere
What a crock! everybody knows that it only takes 20 minutes to drive anywhere in L.A.

    3. O.J.

i believe this was sufficiently addressed above.

    4. That's not a ride at Disney you feel, that's the whole damn state sliding violently back and forth on the continental shelf

    sure beats a tornado.

    5. Smog

uh, that's the MOST smog, buddy.

    6. Compton (Mommy, why does that car keep driving by the apartment really slow?)

a wonderful city, new home of KROQ (that's Loveline to the rest of the country).

    7. Luke Perry and Eric Roberts

    i do apologize.

    8. Producers

...and people, like me, who impersonate producers and impregnate talent. wait, uh, i didn't mean that. i AM a producer, yeah... no wait, a director, no wait...

    ;)

whatever our faults, the women do make up for it. and since it seems this little get-together will indeed be happening here, I've got one request:

Let's do it in San Diego. A wonderful city, where you have the same beautiful people as the rest of the state, with this added bonus: everybody's friendly!

disclaimer: I don't even work for or live in SD county, I've just used some of their products and spent some time around em, and really think they're great.

I would like to thank the board members for replying to this post. In the months and months that I've been posting here, I've never had a topic go more than 2 pages. I think around 28 or 29 responses is the best I'd ever gotten. The fact that this one is in the 80s is very cool, and a personal record for me, considering that I posted it on a whim and expected no responses at all. Maybe I just overthink them too much? I will endeavor to post more trivial stuff now in the future.

    Thanks

"Why don't we have it in Utah the same time as Sundance. We could call it Stardance."

Well, Sundance is about over, but is anybody going to EnderCon this summer? (For fans of Ender's Game) It's in Orem, UT, about 15-20 min away from Sundance. We could meet up there and make a storm.

Yeah ..... then we can party with THE OSMONDS and dodge legions of white-shirt, black-tie bicycle riders
trying to convert us to be Mormons. [face_shocked] ;)

Regardless of where this goes, I think a lot of us could have a blast at ComicCon in San Diego. It would be a great way to meet each other.

To those who would make a vacation out of it. San Diego is a wonderful place, its not L.A. by any stretch of the imagination, even though its only an hour and a half away. No Compton, no egomaniacs (myself excluded), just fun things to do and beautiful beaches.

About ComicCon. I haven't picked up a comic since I was six. I avoided the Con for that reason until last year. I went and it was AMAZING. Fan films galore of all types. Stormtroopers of the 501st where ever you turn. Huge displays of movie props on display and for sale. This is where I first saw Parks Sabers at his booth, the time machine from the new HG Wells remake, etc, etc. It was so much fun. People from all over the world come together, forty thousand in all. I actually don't remember seeing that many comics. :)

When I was there it was as much a Star Wars festival as anything else (except Celebration I imagine). And they have theatres that show fan films and new trailer premieres (like Celebration doesnt I think).

(so you'll be there TAC? can't wait to meet you) ;)

Well, while I'd still push for DragonCon (as I've been a guest there for the last five years and they do pay my way, natch), I could go for a gathering at SDCC...
Makes it a great big business-trip tax deduction come next year's return... :D count me in!

Well America and Canada are a little too far for me...

Would anyone in England be interested in a fan film convention? Would anyone be interested in arranging one?

I don't think it would matter too much where it was especially if it was a full weekend convention. It could be london, Leeds or anywhere in England for that matter.

It's the pineapple and cheese on a stick that's swaying you to throw a UK convention isn't it? Works every time. Next think you know you'll be in a car heading down to Otterbourne. :)

So forgive me for being a dunce, but what exactly would/do people do at a UK based fanfilm convention?

I thought a fascination with cheese was a French thing ? What's that got to do with England? And what is that orange stuff? And what is Tasty Wheat anyway?
