I'd make a comment, but I doubt it would really matter. The thing about debate is you often get so entrenched in defending your own view that you become unwilling to seriously consider what the other side is offering. So, debate doesn't happen, just a spouting of talking points. And, as this "debate" has already regressed to adding foolish examples for emphasis, I'd say we're way past the point of honest debate.

Now, if it were up to me, I'd let Ship in. It's not like it's going to be the Omni of this draft (if you get that reference, you probably need to get a life ... or at least some fresh air). Ship is quite different from a droid ship, in that it doesn't need programmed, and is quite different from, say, C3-PO in that it doesn't just fire based on luck and circumstance.

And, you know what, if Ship is that hard to judge in this draft, don't let it back in for future drafts. But, really, what's the harm in trying?

ya know, i was being serious, but no one was actually commenting on anything i said or answering my questions as to why it's different. inty, you're really the first one to do so. but again, it's a training tool, like a holocron, how is it applicable? no one has said a thing about this. it is not sentient in even the same way a droid is, it doesn't have free will. ship is a tool, like boba fett's ship. that's what i've been comparing it to the most. it can fly completely autonomously, it can dogfight, but in the end it's still just the ship doing it. it isn't a separate entity, a pilot. if someone can explain why i'm wrong in looking at it like this (and yes, i have read all of the current series), please enlighten me.

and i can think of two things the omni comment might be talking about, and i'm sure i know of at least two others that aren't coming to mind... >_> yea...

EDIT

onimi just reminded me of something. ship reminds me very strongly of the sekotan ships. they were "sentient" enough to override their pilots decision to attack, and if i'm remembering right they essentially flew themselves. they just worked better with a pilot than without one, which is essentially the same thing with ship. what i'm guessing, since ship can't actually leave abeloth's control, is that she's so freaking strong (as we've already seen repeatedly) that she is basically controlling ship even from such an extreme distance. kinda like palps influencing the entire imperial navy so they operated more efficiently.

Luke only thinks it isn't sentient. I'm not sure that it really has been confirmed that it isn't. It acts way more like it is.

ship never really seemed terribly sentient to me. i mean, a conversation can be held with a holocron after all. does that make it sentient?
