I think the fundamental factor in this match is the sheer amount of experience that Wedge has. Skill-wise they are very very close, however Wedge has some 45+ years of hard flight experience whereas Fel has about 15-ish. Its an incredibly close match-up, and if we had more concrete material on Fel, I'd say he'd probably win. We don't though, so I think Wedge has enough to win this.

45+ years? Don't forget that Wedge was turned into a General and wasn't flying combat missions during that time.

We know that Baron Fel was out in the unknown regions flying combat missions against the toughest opponents around according to what his son and Shawnkyr say during the NJO. So it wasn't like Fel just stopped flying after he left the Rogues. Fel was out of the Academy 7 years before Yavin and he flew for at least a decade after that. He was never shot down by any of the top pilots in a simulator (Wedge can't say that) and he also spent about 9 years in a TIE without shields. In Universe Tycho also called Fel the best pilot he'd ever seen (including Wedge) and when Wedge and Fel flew against each other in universe the only reason Wedge is still alive is because Salm interfered. That's IN UNIVERSE.
