The New Role Playing Forum Awards

Welcome to the this years RPF Awards! In accordance with our new community initiative, Saintheart and myself have created a new style of awards that we feel will be best for the community. Please read this post very carefully, as many rules have changed between this and prior style of awards.

Purpose of the Awards

Our role playing forums are very special ? unique in their quality and community. We come here to play, but also to work. It?s not easy to build a successful game or navigate through the galaxy with a character. Many of you dedicate significant amounts of your free time to make this place the best it can be.

However, we realize that oftentimes users are not in control of how much time they have to spend on the internet. Sometimes Darth RL rears its ugly head, and good GMs are forced to step away from their games, sometimes even without notice. Prior RPF awards have been less about skill, and more about rewarding users who have the most time on their hands. This, we recognize, is not fair. All users should have a chance to win RPF Awards, regardless of how much time they spend on these boards. This new RPF awards structure is intended to break down the elitism on these boards, and give everyone an equal share of appreciation.

How it works

Awards are held only once a year, on the first day of April. This is intended to give people a more clear idea of when awards are taking place, and generally streamlines the process. Additionally, going towards a once per year style not only puts us in line with Fanfiction, but also makes these awards more special. Games and GMs/Players have been replaced by Threads and Users to be more inclusive towards people that do not full under those categories (IE: Resource).

The four categories for awards are:

A Talented User:
A Helpful User:
An Entertaining Thread:
An Entertaining New Thread:

New threads are defined as any active thread less than four (4) months old).

Voting will consist of one round:

[li]A list of all the nominees will be provided for users to chose from[/li]
[li]You then have a month to post your votes from the choices provided[/li]
[li]Users can only express their preference once in all categories provided, and their preferences are to be posted here in this thread[/li]
[li]Campaigning is not allowed, as that is a favoring of the individual over the community.[/li][/ul]

In accordance with our new moderating philosophy, the new prizes for RPF awards are a round of applause and a pat on the back. Colors and Halls of Fame are responsible for internal division, and we moderators take a categorical stance against unequal treatment of our user base. Those granted recognition are allowed only to use their recognition in furthering the Community.

The RPF Stars Awards have been canceled under this new format. The distinctions fostered by the RPF Stars Awards are disruptive to the forum community. It is bad policy to make others feel terrible for not winning these awards. They have therefore been removed.

sooo... i'm assuming that we can't choose anyone or anything not on the lists?

No, no, no. Choosing means I indicate one of the users is slightly more talented than the others. Equality, guys! Equality. I vote for all three in all four categories.

 

Community Social Thread ought to be up for entertaining new thread, dammit.

Throw AFAS in with the old entertaining threads and get rid of Hooper's if you have to. It is the social thread of the old regime.
