You can say much about Ryan Reynolds, but not that he's hard on the eyes.

His heart seems to be in the right place, too.

I wish he'd stop making terrible films. (fingers crossed for Deadpool)

I truly hope Deadpool is well received and does well. But the "does well" thing can be so relative considering Deadpool is as niche as niche gets. Here's hoping it does manage to do more than break even.

According to Rth, TFA will make in the neighborhood of 28 million tonight.

That's a better Christmas Eve hold than Avatar.

I think he's more widely known than people might think- we're talking about a character that probably has appeared in more comic titles (including Avenger and X teams) simultaneously than any other character, crossed over with almost every other Marvel character at some point and has his own AAA video game, etc.

The ABC exposure today during the NBA games will help.

Once a character gets their own movie, it inevitably helps raise their profile (Blade, Iron Man, Guardians, etc). The movie has to be really low budget or a massive failure for it not to (Steel, etc).

In other semi-Box Office related news, Rob Zombie is trying to edit his newest film to get the R rating for the third time, and he's pissed at the MPAA. I'm with him on this one actually. Censorship is idiotic, let him tell the story he wants to tell.

The Force Awakens crosses the global $1 billion mark at some point tomorrow after 11 days in theaters.

Technically the fault there is with the various cinemas that won't run NC-17 films, not the MPAA. It's hardly censorship to claim that a film is too graphic to receive an R.

Edit: Which is not to say that the MPAA is faultless with respect to the consistency of content ratings, but considering the individual leveling the complaints I've no doubt it's a well earned NC-17.

TFA will probably have the premium IMAX, etc. theatres locked down until Deadpool comes out in mid February, which will probably help keep it's intake healthy. Unless some theatres are gonna bounce it for that wacky looking gods movie or whatever it is. Although you'd hate to be that guy who decides his premium screen in his theatre is gonna take out Force Awakens and put in that ... thing.

Definitely can see how reading about the entire plot afterwards would help. I know she means the entire saga, not just the one movie. I wish I'd just read about the prequels on Wikipedia instead of seeing them in the theater.

Essentially, TFA numbers on Christmas Day made Jesus look like an amateur in the worship business.

perhaps a bit optimistic yet, but

    13 days to $600 million
    16 days to $700 million
    22 days to $800 million
    30 days to $900 million

it's not too far-fetched depending on what the midweek numbers look like in TFA's second week, and how badly it drops after January 3.

Rylo Ken your chart is on point. It has passed $600 million on the twelth day of release. It took the previous record holder, Jurassic World, 36 days to reach the mark. I think TFA will probably be the highest grossing film of all time domestically by the end of the weekend.

    Avengers vs. Star Wars

Which itself will be topped when Disney buys Harry Potter and does a triple crossover.

unless China goes crazy for Star Wars, I don't think Avatar's worldwide total is in reach. But it's been fun watching a billion dollar domestic movie form like a category five hurricane in the gulf of mexico.
