Quick summary of Trump's Important Economic Policy Speech:

Globalization has destroyed the middle class, therefore we must invoke the restless spirit of Bernie Sanders and:

    1. withdraw the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership

    2. appoint tough and smart trade negotiators

    3. identify every violation of trade agreements a foreign country is currently using to harm our workers then then direct all appropriate agencies to use every tool under American and international law to end these abuses.

    4. renegotiate the terms of NAFTA under threat of withdrawal

    5. label China a currency manipulator

    6. bring trade cases against China in the U.S. and at the WTO

    7. threaten China with tariffs under Section 201 and 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.

    also:

-tax reform to lift "burden" on businesses and individuals
    -deregulate
    -do something about energy?
    -ban export of U.S. steel?

Way too insular overall. I can understand targeted and time limited protections for specific industries under certain conditions and criteria.

But this sounds like blanket protectionism.

I'd like to know how IKEA's problems (in addition to selling the world's ugliest and flimsiest furniture, some of it is surprisingly deadly for small children) fit in with the Trump foreign trade regime. Do we unburden IKEA from excessive job killing regulation, or do we ban them from importing their crappy stuff?

Trump's blatant efforts to piss off China would not bode well for the United States.

News flash, Cheeto-faced ferret-wearing ****gibbon...they hold a good percentage of our debt, and we are more ****ed than ever if they call it in.

For some reason Trump didn't include his infamous plan to renegotiate our national debt at pennies on the dollar.

Trump's position is also 100% in opposition to the GOP's 2012 platform, so he's got that going for him... I still think Trump/Sanders would be an unstoppable combo...

Off topic: how the hell does IKEA manage to issue a recall on furniture today due to some of their pieces posing a hazard to young children, with one death from these pieces going back 27 years. 27 YEARS?! Nice to see IKEA is on top of things.

    edit: 27 years not 32.

If a couple of comments on my Facebook are any indication...

They'll talk about how the investigators are wrong and just ignoring those lost lives.

    It's more complicated than that.

If they ever called in our debt, they'd be left holding worthless paper, as the US Treasury would simply print money to pay back the T-Bills, which would crash the value of the dollars we'd be paying them back with.

Same reason they can't sell US debt on the open market too aggressively either; it would drive down the price of their existing holdings and lower their value.

If push ever came to shove, American would be screwed, but China would be in a position that was far, far worse. The US has rule-of-law and far less corruption than China; capital would flee the East and come roaring to the West.

That being said, Trump's positions are insanely stupid, for multiple reasons.

    Peace,

    V-03

I think you are way off with this one. It looks to me more like he's wearing an orangutan pelt.

It looks like the Trump campaign is hitting up just about everyone in the world for money.

As Marshall notes, foreign contributions are illegal.

The sort of illegal that no one can or does question (to my knowledge).

So, to check in after some other primaries... every single person, save one, who Bernie Sanders endorsed for primary elections I believe lost huge. I think there was one that was closest at 15 points in Colorado, if I understand correctly.

The one who did win, won huge -- and she had been expected to for a long time: Zephyr Teachout, in upstate NY. She, without anyone's help really, got 35% of statewide voting against a very popular Andrew Cuomo in a gubernatorial bid a few years ago, so her demolishing her primary opponent was not surprising.

Hillary has an ad on Facebook that puts you into a drawing for Hamilton tickets if you enter, and then if you donate it enters you again.

So that was easy. Pretty much kills two birds with one stone.

I hope she can win in the general. The Catskills and the surrounding region are generally Republican but because of the influx of retired city dwellers and Teachout's state side recognition, I think she has a decent shot.

I saw that name this morning, Zephyr Teachout. I have no clue who she is or what she stands for, but that name is all kinds of awesome.

Sounds like someone who should be on the Jedi Council.

"Jedi Master Zephyr Teachout led the 921st Battle of Felucia."

ETA: On another note, Clinton and Obama have decided to campaign in North Carolina instead of Wisconsin next week:

    Explanation here

I'm going to try to go.

An RNC memo on how to attack Hillary's possible VP choices has leaked:

    http://big.assets.huffingtonpost.com/RNCmemoVP.pdf

I didn't know about things like Kaine being pro-life, Castro trying to get gun manufacturers to come to his city as a safe haven for the NRA after the Sandy Hook shootings, etc.

And funny that RNC people seriously use words like "liberal egoist" amongst themselves.

Edit - just added spoiler tag to prevent massive amount of scrolling to progress through page. No harm, no foul.
