$375 million seems pretty realistic to me for the reasons you mention. a 2.5 multiplier for a $40 million opening weekend would get the domestic total close. I wouldn't be surprised if it makes at least $100 million in North America unless it's even worse than it looks.

I'd agree that $90-100m domestic seems most likely.

One review so far for the Mummy.

"Unlike the old movies that supposedly inspired it, "The Mummy" has no atmosphere, no menace, no romance."

    Sounds great.

You missed the part that made me swoon:

"And instead falls back on the Marvel Blockbuster Blueprint - motiveless villain, mystical power source, demolished cities and lots of spin-off possibilities."

In other words, outside the absurd apologetics of comic book superhero movies, this **** looks as dumb as it really is.

It's the first big hit for the kids as they get out of school for the summer, so it can rack up big midweek totals. I think weekend 2 is going to be huge.

So far The Mummy has a slightly higher rating than BvS on RT. [face_plain]

To be fair, anything is better than BvS.

I doubt Legend of Hercules would be included in that.

So Mummy may end up underneath 40 mil in North America (and definitely coming in 2nd to Wonder Woman considering how strong it's mid-week numbers have been) BUT Tom Cruise may end up getting his biggest Global opening yet with basically everyone else in the world wanting to see it for a 170+ mil worldwide. (also Deadline sez that the flick may have actually cost 190 mil as opposed to the 130 reported pricetag. I'd tend to agree with Deadline). Calling this the Warcraft of 2017. This is not much of a surprise because did anyone see the numbers on Fate of the Furious? A certainly respectable 223 in NA but 1 BILLION overseas! Methinks megabudget franchises in NA may have to coast on quality and a strong brand but overseas? The more spectacle, the better!

Deadline is probably including the marketing numbers, which is always estimated (it's never a firm number, and impossible to know in most cases I think), which is where the estimated 3x reported budget number ($375mm) comes in to be profitable, as it's 2x total budget (usually 50% of film budget is marketing).

These are all highly unscientific approaches, since Hollywood is notoriously opaque on their budgeting.

I believe he speaks of the Kellan Lutz "film".

I've heard it's bad, but I barely made it through the trailer so the film is right out for me.

no, that's fantastic. Almost unheard of for a superhero film.

Yep, I don't believe any in the modern era (i.e. Nolanverse through MCU) have done it yet since Batman Begins and Iron Man respectively, both of which had zero expectations and excellent word of mouth. Considering the horrorshow of the DCU (an average of about 65.5% drop) this is, frankly, amazing.

Also, given how much harder it is to hold in the massive tentpole era these days.

Believe The Avengers was closest of any of the other movies previously since then.

Is it possible that Wonder Woman threepeats since only Cars 3 and All Eyez on Me come out Father's Day weekend?
