I think there's going to be an interesting "Ted vs. the goat" fight for the number one position for this weekend's box office with the Coco being challenged by The Shape of Water.



I think it's going to be a close smackdown.

 

So, depending on how The Last Jedi does in the first couple of weeks, the top two domestic highest grossing movies of 2017 should be: The Last Jedi and Beauty and the Beast.

Also, Disney crossed the $5 billion global mark again.

Really? I thought Shape of Water was nationwide this weekend. Bummer.

EDIT: It's currently at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

 

I checked locally and The Shape of Water will be playing at a couple of art house theaters next weekend.

Shape of Water will probably expand and be across North America by Christmas ala La La Land. but even La La Land didn't do a true nationwide expansion until the 1st week of January, I think, and it opened the same day. So it'll be a slow box office take.

Disaster Artist is the one getting a small release this weekend and going wide on the 8th. oddly, I think it's going to do well, not many comedies out there now and it'll be wacky counterprograming to Justice League / Thor / Last Jedi.
