There are three certainties in life ? Death, Taxes and the EUC Starfighter Draft!

Now, for those newbies who don?t know, and old-timers who refuse to listen, here are the rules -

    Rules:

    1. VIPs - Colors - Titles: Once again, the winner of the Starfighter Draft will be awarded VIP status and colors for the duration of one week. The Winner is the only person who will get colors, so don't even ask. However, all others involved in the Draft, (GMs, judges, etc.) to put their information in their sig. The winner also gets automatic entry and first pick in the next draft.

    2. One Draft at a Time: It's confusing enough as it is to keep one Draft a float, so we're going to be sticking to the single Starfighter Draft.

    3. Leave Your Problems At the Door: If any personal problems or disputes arise in the midst of the Draft, please refrain from playing them out in the thread. Take care of things outside the Draft, and if problems persist, contact either myself, or one of the Mods, and we'll see what can be done.

    4. Obey the Forums Rules: Talking and discussions is encouraged, so long as nothing gets too heated. Just follow the normal forum rules, (no flamming/spamming/trolling, etc.) and you should be fine. Please respect everyone else in the game; it'll work out better for everyone.

    5. No Replacing the Commissioner!: If I'm going to be out for an extended period of time, then i'll arrange for someone to act as temporary Commissioner until I return. GMs and Judges will not take it onto themselves to find a new Commish to fill in if I happen to be absent.

    You know who you are

A couple of changes have been made this time around. First, instead of double elimination, a round robin of involving two conferences will be played, with the top three from each group going through to the playoffs. Also, Gm?s will now draft 8 pilots, with each game going for 8 matches. Finally, trading is now allowed from the start of drafting and not from round three as was previous. None of these changes are permanent, and if it is decided that they haven't worked, then we can return to the old drafting formula.

Alrighty then! Now that we've got all those annoying formalities out of the way, let's start with the sign-ups!

So, we have 3 judging positions and 12 GM positions that are just waiting to be filled! If you would like to be a judge, please PM the Commish FIRST with your interest, and said Commish will announce judges that are picked in the thread HIMSELF. It's best to have judges who are experienced in the Draft, so they know whats going on. I would like someone who hasn't judged before to give it a go though, just for some variety. So, to all your newbies out there, it is recommended you start as a GM first.

The GMs will be responsible for creating a competitive team of 8 pilots, creating a squadron name, and managing their team for as far as they get in the competitions. The judges will be responsible for deciding the winners once the competitions get underway. I'll be going over the requirements of the GMs and the judges once we get underway, but if you have any questions, check out the previous Draft threads:

Well, there's our full GM roster. Now to find that elusive last Judge. :p

I was concerned for a bit that I wasn't going to get a spot myself. I just KNEW that Kyptastic would start the thread at the worst possible time for an East Coast American. I was in bed, for goodness sake! :p

Looks like a tougher field this time around. That sucks. ;)

Oh, and not like it's a big deal, or anything, but the link to the 5th draft isn't right. It links back to the 4th draft, so there are two links going to that one. Maybe because I won that bad boy and it's doubly awesome. :p

Someone's gonna have to explain what goes on behind the scenes, because I'm stupid and forgot what Typo said last time I asked (and too lazy to find the thread). :p I followed the last draft fairly closely, so I think I understand how it works fairly well, but: how are matches set up, and what do I as a GM need to do besides argue my case? Just let Kyp know when I want to use a trump? What are these numbers folks often lament having poor luck on? Is it was just each tier matched up against one another (i.e. pilot #1s fight one another and so on)?

Once we're done drafting and you have your full team of eight, Kyp'll post the conferences and the first set of matchups. Then you assign a set of numbers to your pilots. This should generally be kept random and you don't have to assign them to the same round number you drafted them at. Here's a hypothetical set of numbers you might send in:

    1. Anakin Skywalker
    2. Tycho Celchu trumped with Wedge Antilles
    3. Luke Skywalker
    4. Darth Vader
    5. Dia Passik
    6. Baron Soontir Fel
    7. Wedge Antilles trumped with Tycho Celchu
    8. Han Solo

And then once the matches get started, whichever pilot you placed at #4 would face off against whomever the opposing GM placed at #4, and then the same as the rest of the numbers get called. You don't have to trump if you don't want to.

Worst possible time for an East Coaster? Pfffft! Lies! It was only 1:30 in the morning- I don't know why you weren't up. Sheesh. :p

Oh. Wait. You were talking about normal people. My bad. :p

    Numbers 101:

After you complete the draft process and enter matches, you must submit "numbers" to the Commish, which may be an integral part of your match process.

    Say you drafted the following:

    Luke Skywalker
    Wedge Antilles
    Tycho Celchu
    Hobbie Klivian
    Wes Janson
    Corran Horn
    Jaina Solo
    Han Solo

You must now arrange your pilots in a random (or not random, however you feel with help you) order numbered from 1-8.

    Example:

    1. Tycho Celchu
    2. Han Solo
    3. Hobbie Klivian
    4. Luke Skywalker
    5. Wes Janson
    6. Corran Horn
    7. Wedge Antilles
    8. Jaina Solo

You now take this randomized order (numbered from 1-8) and PM them to the Commish (Kyptastic) and your opponant will do the same. Matches are called on random numbers, and the pilot that you assigned to that number will face the pilot that your opponent assigned to the same number.

    Example:

    Round 1: Match 1:

    NUMBER 5!

    Wes Janson vs. Turr Phennir

    Trumping 101:

The trumping process takes place during the number arrangement stage prior to a match. If you have two weaker pilots, or perhaps two pilots that work even better together, you can possibly guarantee a match win. HOWEVER, trumping two pilots guarantees a loss!

The same team as above will be your example.

You decide you want to trump Hobbie and Wes.

    Example:

    1. Tycho Celchu
    2. Han Solo
    3. Hobbie Klivian and Wingmate Wes Janson
    4. Luke Skywalker
    5. Wes Janson and Wingmate Hobbie Klivian
    6. Corran Horn
    7. Wedge Antilles
    8. Jaina Solo

This process allows you two utilize two pilots in one match.

    Example:

    Round 1: Match 1:

    NUMBER 5!

Wes Janson and Wingmate Hobbie Klivian vs Turr Phennir

That looks a bit better in terms of chances, eh? HOWEVER, when the number 3 is called, you will automatically forfeit (autoloss) that match. This could, however, turn to your advantage. For example, here is your match number three:

Hobbie Klivian (forfeit) vs Darth Vader

This just made your opponent waste a perfectly good pilot on an automatic loss.

That should answer some of your questions.

The lamentation on poor numbers is basically about the fact that you had a pilot land on someone you didn't want them to land on. And arguements are good, but those come AFTER the drafting and each round numbers process.

Edit: lol at me being so slow. At least mine is more detailed.
