Typically... that is the safest time, while at cruising altitude. Clear-air turbulence or other, known turbulence can occur and be scary but generally if something were mechanically wrong, it would typically occur at takeoff or landing.

Very sad and scary. It sounds like whatever happened, happened suddenly since the officials don't seem to have heard any warning from the pilots?...

Could it have possibly been a radar/radio malfunction? I'm staying up to date on this, but have they found the plane yet?

All they've found so far are two oil slicks that could be from the plane. Given that it's dark there now I doubt we'll hear anything more til their morning.

Last I heard was oil slick and column of smoke. That doesn't sound hopeful.

More and more I'm thinking it was terrorists...or that it was maybe it was shot down by a trigger happy idiot. I dunno, it just seems too fishy.

Statistically there's no reason to think it's a terrorist attack, and the fake passports and whatever are far from convincing. Planes have gone "missing" due to accidents.

How long did it take to find that Air France flight that crashed a few years back? Did it send a distress call?

    edit: seems it did.

I think this is highly unlikely since the plane appears to have been on course.

Is it possible that a rogue, out of control space whale swallowed the plane?

i dunno man once you accept that gang wars are being fought mexico over the avocados in your guacamole, that the shirt you're wearing was stitched by an abused cambodian child, that literally everything you do or consume is connected to blood and death and suffering in some way, i mean, you might as well laugh at any and everything. either that or kill yourself

i mean excuse me if i think its the height of arrogance for people living in the apex predators of the food chain of global capitalism to get all hand-wringing and solumn over a mere 200 dead folks. you had some portion of the blood of that many people on your hands by the time you ate breakfast this morning, holmes

but killing yourself is so hard. i just accept that i'm in a constant state of decay and seek short-lived pleasures that speed up the process.

(There's a bit of inconsistency in this thread regarding people making Lost references...)

Anyway, on a serious note, I really hope this plane is found and that everyone on board is safe.

And today we discover why maik is the way he is: he stared into the abyss...and it blinked.

Well we can still hope the passengers and crew are alive. Maybe they got sucked into a time vortex like in the Twilight Zone and now are struggling to return to their proper time.
