The Arena National Football League Fantasy Football League

Hi there! Are you ready for the 2008 season of NFL Football? I sure am, and there's no other way to get ready than a fantasy football league.

This season we'll be playing on Yahoo! Sports, so you'll have to sign up there if you want to join(but the league will be easily tracked through here). The league has a maximum of 14 GMs, and a minimum of 8(but we'll need an even amount, so if you sign up as an uneven GM, you may have to be cut if you can't find anyone else to make it even).

Now, if you've never played a fantasy league, here's how it works. If you have, you might as well just skip to the bottom(make sure you check the roster slots though: these differ from league to league).



The Draft Process: We'll be doing an offline draft, which will be held in this thread. The draft involves selecting current active players in the NFL to represent your team. The positions for this league are as follows:

QB
WR
RB
RB
TE
WR/TE
WR/RB
K
DEF

The draft will go for 16 rounds(you will have 9 starters and 7 benched players). Then, depending on how well the actual players do on any given Sunday, you will get points for their performance.

The draft goes in mirror order. i.e. the GM with the first pick in the first round will get the last pick in the second round. It will look like this:

Round 1 -

1. Team A
2. Team B
3. Team C
4. Team D

Round 2 -

1. Team D
2. Team C
3. Team B
4. Team A


And so on for 16 rounds. You will have 24 hours to make your selection per turn(so if you have back to back picks, you will have double that time). There will be absolutely no leniency on this. Once a person selects, the next person has 24 hours to pick. There is no need to wait for the Commissioner to bump them. If they go over their time limit, their turn is over, and the next GM make choose freely. We don't have all the time in the world for this draft to finish(unlike other drafts we actually have a deadline), so please make your picks as soon as possible.

Bumps: These work as they do in the NFL. If you are bumped, you can then submit your pick at any time(You will not be bumped to the end of the round. Your bump will continue to roll down the order until you pick).

Keep in mind, you can only start the positions listed. Also keep in mind that teams have bye weeks during the season, so you will want to draft back ups for your starters that do not also have a bye on the same week. Free Agency will be open for the entirety of the season, as well as trades, so if you are unhappy with your team after the draft you can change it at any time.

Also, there is no list in this thread. Only the picks made will be listed in this thread, so pay attention to who has been picked before you make a selection. If you make a pick that was already picked, it will be considered a bump. When selecting a player, please make it as the players name, their position, and their team. i.e.:

Peyton Manning, QB(IND)[the abbreviation is fine, as is the entire name]


Once that's over we get to the match ups: Match ups are head to head every week against your fellow GMs. As I said, your players will be awarded points based on their performance in the actual games that they play. If you draft a player in the first round, and they are injured in the first week, well that is just tough noogies. That's part of the game, and as a GM you will have to deal with it, because we can't prevent reality from happening. Winners will be the team that has accumulated more points than their opponent.

Just doing some math in my head, we're probably going to make the clock 12 hours instead of 24. With the rolling bumps, it shouldn't hurt someone too bad if they miss their turn. 12 hours is still plenty of time, considering if it was a live draft you would get about 90 seconds.

Ok, the draft is going to start tomorrow evening. I will send out the e-mails at the same time, and you can then join the league. You don't have to join the league right away, but I would ask that you do so as soon as possible. I am going to see if we can get one or three more people to join before then.


Because of the time constraints, I was wondering if, say a week from now, instead of doing the draft on here, we might be able to do a live draft. Does everyone think they might have next Saturday open or something? Maybe Friday night? I would feel more comfortable with the timing doing a live draft, but it could be very difficult to get everyone in there. If not, we're going to have to go ahead with the draft in this thread. Please respond before tomorrow night if you are available for that, because that is the better option. The last league I did took something like thirty minutes to an hour with eight GMs. It wouldn't be that much of a commitment.

I agree that a live draft might work better. As far as a time goes, maybe something like Sunday afternoon or night. Not as much stuff going on. I work friday and saturday night without internet, but I work sunday night with it. I don't know, board time is PST? Maybe like 11am board time? or 6pm board time on sunday?

 

Maybe a little later on Sunday. Is anyone busy next Sunday?

I can't make Fri or Sat, I have a wedding to go to (not mine ) so a lot of my weekend will be tied up. I'm hoping to be home by late Sun. evening around 6-7pm Central.

I'm assuming yahoo has some type of system for ranking players, so I wouldn't have a problem ranking my players so the computer could make a few of my picks if I couldn't make it right from the start and then I could join in later.

I got too work sunday.

I looked at my schedule and I work an early shift. So that wont be too bad.

 

I work sunday night, but I have internet from about 6pm CST on. ANy time after that works for me.
