Okay, DarthIntegral has given me the okay to run a College Football Rankings game where you guess the rankings of the Top 25 in College Football each week.

A weekly deadline (Tuesday 11 P.M. board time) will be set to have everyone who wants to participate. PM you their weekly ballots to Arena_Power_Rankings that I have set up for this game. When I get all the ballots, I'll assign points to every team that gets a vote. 25 points for a team that gets a first place ranking, 24 for a second place ranking, and so on until 1 point for a 25th place ranking, and zero points for unranked.

Then, I'll add up the total points for all schools that get a vote. I'll give the school with the highest overall points the #1 ranking, and go on down the list until you've got the 25 top ranking schools.

Here is the current preseason AP Top 25.

    1. USC (62) 0-0 1,622
    2. LSU (2) 0-0 1,511
    3. West Virginia (1) 0-0 1,396
    4. Texas 0-0 1,375
    5. Michigan 0-0 1,371
    6. Florida 0-0 1,276
    7. Wisconsin 0-0 1,192
    8. Oklahoma 0-0 1,166
    9. Virginia Tech 0-0 1,148
    10. Louisville 0-0 1,031

I'd send in rankings now, except the voting closes after the weekend's games, so I'll wait until then to vote. :p

I figured we'd probably be best starting it by waiting until after the first set of games was played, so that The Arena rankings weren't pre-season, and we had actual game performance for some teams when ranking them.

Ok, sorry to confuse everyone, but this will not be a game of guessing at the rankings (trying to predict the AP poll), but rather, trying to come up with the Arena's top 25. Then, we'll have discussion on the Arena's top 25 (which would be our version of the AP/USA Today/Coaches/Harris/etc poll). So, I'll move back when the first set of ballots are due until the following Tuesday, September 11th. By that team, each team should have at least played one game. Then we can compare what everyone sent in with the AP Top 25 poll and discuss our differences.

You don't need to move it back - most teams play this weekend, so they'll have played before the original deadline. Might be better to have a Wednesday deadline instead of Tuesday, but otherwise its fine.

Okay, the Arena's first set of rankings will be moved back to this coming week. I will move the deadline to Wednesday's by 11:59 P.M. board time. So that will make it September 5th for this week, September 12th for the second week, etc. That should give everyone more than enough time to send in their rankings. So watch the main set of games today and then start sending in your votes for your top 25 in College Football.

PM your list to Arena_Power_Rankings. Don't forget that Florida State plays Clemson on Monday night as well Texas Tech playing Southern Methodist on Monday as well. I will post the AP Top 25 poll when that comes out on Tuesday.

Normally, yes, they do release the polls on Monday, but due to the games on Monday, they will not release it until Tuesday after all of the games have been played.

So, anyone going to put Michigan in their Top 25? And do you think that Michigan will drop out of the AP Top 25 poll as well?

I'm sure Michigan will still be ranked, if not nearly as highly... but they haven't earned it yet, so they won't be in my list. They probably will be before long, though.

i doubt Florida State/Clemson is going to shake up my list much, but I'll hold off until after Monday. The 3-8 position is the one I'm having a lot of problems with right now. OU played great, as did West Virginia, and Texas looked shaky. I'm going to have to ponder a while.

Remember folks: don't vote for Appalachian State.;)

I have an idea. Along with predicting the polls, you can take all the users polls and make The Arena's top 25 poll.

    [hr]

That is what I am going to do with everyone's votes. I will post the Arena's Top 25 poll along with the AP Top 25 poll and then we will discuss the differences. I will post the AP Top 25 poll tomorrow and then the Arena's Top 25 poll on Thursday after I've counted everyone's votes.

Sent mine in earlier. I'm curious to see where Michigan and Tennessee end up in our poll.

Should we refer to this as the APR Poll? Just curious.

I've got mine in. I hate trying to rank teams this early, with so few of them showing us anything of substance. I ranked Cal #1, since they've shown the most to date.

Time is running out to get your votes in for the first week of the Arena's Top 25 poll. You have until 11:59 P.M. board time tonight to send your votes in.

P.S. As far as what we call this, maybe everyone should vote on that as well. What does everyone want to name it? Arena Top 25 or Arena Powers Rankings or something else?

I rather like calling it the APR Poll. It's kind of a joke on AP Poll. Admittedly, it would be easy to confuse them.

We could call it the JCF Poll. It's distinct and easy to remember.

I decided to abstain until week 3 or 4. (which is when polls should start in any case)
