The Arena?s Favorite Sports Figures

Since the first attempt at doing this was never completed, we're going to try it again! (much of this first post borrowed from Onoto with thanks to him, who started the previous version)

Whether they?re the athletes that dazzle us, the coaches that befuddle us, or the umpires that infuriate us, it?s the people involved in sports that keep us coming back season after season. So, Arena, who are your all-time favorite sports figures?

• Please PM me a list of your favorite sports figures. You may vote for up to 50, though you don't have to list anywhere near that many. You should have at least 15 names on your list, and given how many there are to choose from, this should not be a problem. Those that receive a first-place vote will receive fifty points, second-place will receive forty-nine, and so on. The more names you include, the more accurate our final list will be.


• "Sports Figure" is defined as any specific person (or animal) with a major association with sports. This includes, but is not limited to, athletes, coaches, owners, famous fans, writers, broadcasters, photographers, referees, horses, and mascots.


• The figure need not be currently active or alive. Just, at some point in time, strongly connected to the sport.


• Figures should not be repeated on a list


• I'll throw out any votes that do not meet the criteria, and that point total shall be void on that ballot.


• The ONLY voting criteria should be that the figure is one of your favorites.


• All normal voting rules apply: no socks, only send in one list, and number your list.


• Please feel free to engage in discussion, especially about why you voted for who you voted for. Votes must be PMed to me to be counted, but you are free to post your list in this thread as well if you would like to.


• The deadline for ballot submission will be March 21 at midnight EST.

New rule clarification: Figures should not be repeated on a list

 

So these have to be in order from one to fifty? I can easily name 50 figures important to me, but listing them in order will make it infinitely harder on me.

 

Vote doesn't work if they're not in order, sorry.

i made my list in about ten minutes. i could have agonized over the rankings a lot longer, and there are a few people i regret leaving out but it's not really something worth stressing over.

like i said before, this is really just supposed to be a fun thing and it's not worth agonizing a lot over. plus it's your favorite sports figures, not the greatest sports figures ever so there are no wrong answers. that said, i did try to balance my list between personal favorites and historical figures who i think were great for sports. here's the list i sent. a few things i would change, but overall i still like it.
